There’s actually a photo of me in one of those…FMD
If you’re trying to tempt me into scouring the internet for it you’ve got another thing coming.
My old boss had it put on A0 posters all over work.
Fucking prick…(legend bloke).
Got a sudden urge to meet this guy.
This mountain bike malarky is harder than I remember. 7.57 miles today up a mountain round a few quarry tracks etc. and I’m busted now. I encountered peat bogs, quarry tracks, puddles that I could have drowned in and mountain stuff. I’ll need to look at what the elevation change was but it was steep on occasion. I just don’t have the stamina for that kind of sustained effort yet.
That bugger has cost me a pair of trainers.
Get yourself a helmet with a camera attached…
need to see how fast (or slow) you navigating the hills :0)
Slow. Averaged only 4.4mph today according to my watch but I was well off piste on occasion. I got caught out by how much the tracks had changed and in some cases deteriorated badly. They’ve been working some of the slate tips and some were really badly scoured as well. Quite surprising as they never used to.
EDIT; Just checked. I climbed 300m today and most of that was done between 1-2 miles. No wonder it hurt; still hurts.
A mate of mine has just signed up to Cycle2Work and has a £1k voucher for 600…
Doesn’t want it for various reasons, so I am gonna take it off his hands. Getting a Giant hybrid for the work ride, and a seat for the lad, as well as a new Shimano crankset and Stages power meter for the road bike (Mrs SBYM said I couldn’t upgrade the frame, didn’t say anything about the components…)
Excited.
You still in London? Not sure I’d want to cycle there to be honest

Excellent Bikes… Some good models at a fraction of new cost normally on e-bay
And you did that for enjoyment? Very nice scenery though.
Yeah I can he a bit of a nut job at times and frequently bite off more than I can chew in a physical sense but it was ok today. Hard but satisfied. I’ve always had this daft fascination with climbing hills on a bike as if I enjoy the pain.
There’s work to familiarise myself with the route again and maybe look at going longer. Good thing is, that if I can build the climbing strength (and lose a stone in weight) there’s no end of possible tracks and routes for me here.
I ride from Bromley to Whitechapel two times a week when we’re in the office. Fully WFH atm.
It’s exactly 11mi via the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, and apart from the centre of Lewisham, not a bad ride.
Addendum: a pedestrian was put in a coma not long ago in the centre of Lewisham…that section of road is awful.
Interesting.
The crankset I’m about to order is 50/34…first compact I’ve ever had. Buying it with the express intention of going on some summer riding holidays in the Alps.
I’m in horrible shape at the moment, but love climbing too. We must both be into self-flagellation.
Same. Probably 2 stone over my ideal cycling weight but 1-1.5 stone over my target. Really struggling with the eating discipline. My head is screwed on that front.
There’s some weird sense of achievement I get from climbing, far more than distance. That was until I was completely blown away by some bloke last year. My head did not handle that well, but credit to him. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a bike rider that strong. Impressive.
There’s some brutal road climbs around here that hurt to walk. The savage thing is they only qualify as cat 3’s in TdF world. They are on my list.
I’ve had a good week exercise wise though. 2 runs at about 3 miles, another short one and then yesterday’s bike ride. Must carry on and sort the eating. Snowboarding booked for March, must be able to reach my bindings.
Where you off to??
We’re at Tigne Le Boisses for a week from 6 Feb.
La Thuile end of Feb, 1st week in March. The Boss isn’t keen on France and I swear that the little one is part Italian somehow. He loves the usual UK version of Italian food
I haven’t told the Boss that half of the resort is in France.
Hoping this Omicron thing blows itself out like I was doing yesterday.
Just a loosener today. A couple of miles on some flattish tracks with the little’un and the dog.
I think I need a new saddle. I’m not getting used to this one. My road bike one is fine but this is like a building brick on end.
1st thing to do with a new bike is buy a highly paded comfy saddle with a fart hole in the middle.
