The Cycling Thread

*In 1996, Göran Kropp, famously known as “The Crazy Swede,” embarked on an incredible adventure, cycling 8,000 miles from Stockholm to the base of Mount Everest with all his climbing gear. *
This daring journey was not just about reaching Everest; it was about pushing the limits of human endurance. After arriving at the base, Kropp successfully climbed the iconic mountain solo and unsupported, defying the odds by doing so without bottled oxygen. His remarkable achievement didn’t end there—after conquering Everest, he cycled back home to Sweden, completing an extraordinary mission that showcased his adventurous spirit and determination. Kropp’s story inspires many.

Well done, Simon Yates.

I have not been able to catch any of this Giro, but watching the highlights from today now.

That was fucking class.

Massive props to Wout. Legend.

Pog again stage 1 Dauphine. :grimacing:

So the story goes that Pog was pulling 7.2 watts/kg for 20mins last Saturday.

For context a study of 140ish pro cyclist found that the 90th percentile i.e.top 10% could hold just under 6.6 W/kg for 20minutes. Caveat is Pog’s data might have contributed to the study.

Still nuts.
Still thinking about a bike.

The other caveat is the PEDs.

I held 2.7 w/kg for 30mins today. Close!

Zone 2 obviously.

We all looking forward to the TDF? Don’t forget, the Women’s Giro starts on Sunday. It should be a good race with some decent stages in this edition.

Yes absolutely. More than ever this year. Normally it takes a little while for me to get into it due to availability if coverage, but this year I’ve been more active in following the sport.

Pog looks ominous.

Again if the womens tour got more coverage I’d get into watching it. They are all phenomenal athletes.

Yes will watch some of the key stages. The GC race may be a 24-25 PL situation but I’m sure there will be lots to enjoy

Well worth a watch this, or at least the first third where they discuss the route.

Lots to enjoy in that first week I think, before the real fireworks.

Last year of free-to-air, and the subscription access to cycling went from £7 a month to £30.

Terrible development.

Honestly what’s left? What sport is left untouched by the hands of TV money? Will they start charging you to stand at the side of the road next?

Fuck that news has really pissed me off.
