The East is Red

Sorry, I don’t really get this. The Chinese had cameras in the Dáil? And the Irish knew, but did nothing? Aren’t proceedings in the Dáil public anyway? Could you explain?

It’s a growing concern in quite a lot of countries. There are quite a lot of CCTVs and their related software which come from China. that the Chinese govt/entities install secret software for surveillance purposes is well known.

Does a country want to admit that their security apparatus was found lacking?

This thread gets revived and all the Liverpool players go to Saudi Arabia. Could you open a thread including the lottery numbers and my name?

Yep so in the Dail we had cameras manufactured in China by Hikvision, a Chinese state-backed company. They had already been linked to security risks in Britain, and the United States and Australia has banned from use in government buildings.

There was a rumour that they could be watched from China and they were in sensitive rooms of the Dail so they were removed before Biden came to visit

And it’s not about proceedings in the public it’s the meetings with say presidents that could be compromised by Chinese government watching and listening.

Ok, cheers

Our security was lacking 100%. We found out and room action immediately,

I’ve had drinks with a lot of Chinese before. From what I could make out , quite a sizable percentage don’t like the govt and are envious of people who can comment on their govt with no repurcussions.

The fear of the big brother surveillance is massive though and only some rather copious amounts of liquor made them open up.

Was about to mention that company by name. It’s a concern for India as well given that those CCTVs are prevalent.

Definitely India to be one of the most power countries in the future so will have to limit Chinese interference asap

I wouldn’t say that. Plenty of things need to be sorted out for that to happen.

Thanks for that. The Chaebol do sound a lot like the Zaibatsu of pre-war Japan who had a lot of influence over the government. They were broken up by the Americans during the Occupation, but three of the Big Four are still doing rather well, i.e. Mitsubishi, Mitsui and Sumitomo.

Believe me, Japan isn’t all that technologically advanced. It’s a bit of a myth perpetuated by cyberpunk type of films and the impression the world got in the eighties when Japanese tech really was dominant. For example, even though there lots of ways to pay for things electronically cash is still king here. It’s way behind the UK, and probably Ireland, in that regard.

Yeah notice cash is king in Japan. They still do fax machines there I think?

Yup. I’ve got one in the house. Tell you what, it’s still the most secure way to send information. Provided that you’re confident of who is on the other end, of course.

I’ll have to see how they work. I’ve absolutely no experience with one. Should have tried while I was in Asia now that I think of it.

Didn’t a fax keep de gea at United at one stage :joy:

They did evolve from Korean companies businessman taking over leftover infrastructure from the Japanese. They are basically the same.

@gasband this you?

This is the worst representation of Singapore’s racial diversity in a picture :joy:

Nope I am a good boy, I have not been to a drinking hole for a long time now.
