The Film Thread

Another great one. Only Murders in the Building has him in fine form if you haven’t seen it yet.

fascinating

Caught The Boy and The Heron last week in a completely empty theatre. Great film, and the best way to go to the cinema.

Know some people who have seen and we’re confused about the meaning of the film, but seemed pretty straightforward to me. Won’t spoil it as I know some others are still planning to go see it.

Watched Poor Things today, great film as well. Stone excellent as always. Ruffalo was the stand out comedic element for me.

Did you move around, just because you felt like it?

nah, but i did take my trousers off

Ah, it’s a porno, got it.

I’ve just finished watching The Tiger.

A Korean film and honestly one of the better films I’ve seen in a while. I honestly found it gut wrenching, brilliantly filmed (those colours, or in this case, a lack of), haunting score and above all an honestly superb storyline.

Highly recommended by me. Maybe not to everyone’s taste but I thought it much better than most of everything coming out of Hollywood at the moment.

That’s the one.

I’m seem to have become very sensitive to certain things for some reason, (trying not to give away any spoilers). So much so, I nearly didn’t finish it, with the direction it was going but I’m glad I did.

Watched it. Very good. There were some very touching scenes.

Yes, quite a few.
Great story too I thought.

Watched Fingernails last night. It is a bit reminiscent of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, even to the point of having to acknowledge from the get go that the central premise is a bit silly (a test that tell partners if they are in love that is so accepted by the population that it becomes the entire basis for choosing a partner). But if you can get over that its a really surprisingly enjoyable film. Riz Ahmed as usual is brilliant

Watched ‘Poor Things’ last night.

Very strange, brilliantly acted and stylish. Macabre, twisted, and, at times, hilarious.

It’s been a good couple of months for movies.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning…

It’s just shit. It is barely a film and more just a collection of action sequences for Cruise to looks cool. Cruise isnt an actor anymore. He is the actor’s equivalent of a spoiled 8 year old with all the new toys who throws a party just to have his friends come over and watch him play with them.

“I’m going to get in my car and speed over there, and you all yell ‘go tom, you’re so fast!’ Are you all ready?”

Just as long as they don’t make direct eye contact…

I heard a vicious rumour that he does his own stunts.

Someone said he was a stunt, but I may have misheard

Cruise never was an actor as such, he is a movie star. He’s the big name that they add to a release to grab the attention of the public and, in fairness, he has made a hell of a lot of movies that I really enjoyed.

Then again, his films are quite formulaic, as Rich Hall once noted:

Way too much hypnotism going on in Hypnotic that I feel hypnotised myself. Having to recap the whole film backwards soon after I’ve watched it. My head hurts Robbie.
