loved Inverness in the summer time in my youth, loads of tourists from all over the world wandering about, bars full with tourists and live music playing.
when working in the bar, I always got asked the same question
(usually by Americans),
I’ve been laid up in bed ill today, so watching a few films.
Son of Kong (1933):
This was the sequel to King Kong, released just a few months after the classic original. I never knew this even existed until a couple of months ago. It’s around a third of the budget of the original and it shows. It’s 69 minutes long and the monsters only feature for around 15 minutes max. That said, it does have a sense of humour, but I can see why it was forgotten.
KPop Demon Hunters (2025):
I ended up watching this to see what the fuss was about. It’s actually a lot of fun. Essentially, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but with Korean pop singers instead of American high school misfits, with lots of musical numbers.
I was rather taken by the animation style. It’s done with 3D CGI, but it has a slightly staccato feel reminiscent of stop motion film making. It’s quite unique.
Does anyone have any interest in the new Avengers? I was not really its target audience even in its peak run, but I watched most of them, and enjoyed most of those. But this reboot seems really desperate.
A few days before I cancelled my Disney subscription, I watched Thunderbolts. It was actually decent but it only reminded me how MCU standards have slipped since the third Captain America film. I don’t have interest in that film universe anymore if I’m honest.
They’ve dropped 3 trailers now (not sure if the third is “official”) and they all just say “remember those old characters, the ones that if they’re absent makes you not show up? Well, they’re back”
Loved the Infinity saga. Most of those movies were watchable and made sense either as a standalone and as part of the whole and was fun to watch with a whole lot of jeopardy thrown in. Didn’t require too much of a shift to understand either. After Endgame there was what seemed to be fifty thousand series that you had to watch, the movies were bland and alot of the characters were no more. Massive step down and now I couldn’t tell you who’s who or where they fit in. Pity, really. Spent many enjoyable gloomy days watching and rewatching them with the family. Can only go so far, I guess.
We have just watched Der Tiger (English: The Tank) on Amazon Prime, and if you fancy a rather intense war film which is as big on emotions as it is on explosions, this could be for you.
It involves a German Tiger Tank crew who are sent on a mission in Ukraine during 1943 to rescue a German Colonel. It has a lot of story similarities to Apocalypse Now (or, at least, Heart Of Darkness) and the ending reminded me of another Vietnam War film which I won’t name as it would give away the ending.
As far as i can tell, it is available in various dubbed and subtitled versions as well as the original German. Well worth a watch.
