Finally got around to watching Cruella, and not only was it pretty damn good, but in keeping with the discussions about good soundtracks, it’s right up there with best.

Spotlight, Parasite, Hacksaw Ridge…brilliant.
Watching ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ it would be easy to think “typical Hollywood over the top film making”. But in reality there is a ton of heroic stuff that they left out of the movie. Before winning his medal of honor on Okinawa Desmond Doss had already earned bronze and silver crosses for deeds on other islands.
Haven’t seen it. Keep thinking of Heartbreak Ridge when I see or hear that title…
The guy hip firing a heavy machine gun and hitting several Japanese soldiers completely took me out of the film. Couldn’t enjoy it after that.
Just got back from Shang-Chi and really enjoyed it. From the trailers it wasn’t exactly what I expected but it was better for it.
It’s very much a Marvel movie, so don’t expect anything more than that, but I enjoy Tony Leung as an actor and movies like Hero and Crouching Tiger, and this was sort of entry level for the genre.
Spoiler:
Also there is a not so subtle Liverpool FC related cameo which a nice bonus.
Leonard DiCaprio playing a dead living man again. Give it a rest!
Watched the Candyman remake last night. Pretty disappointing overall. Hasn’t a patch on the original and Tony Todd.
Watched Dune tonight and enjoyed every single of the 156 minutes.
I’d love to see it in the theatre but I’ll take the streaming version under current circumstances. I honestly can’t wait to see it - I hope and expect it to be the best sci-fi film all of time alongside two Blade Runners, so no pressure there.
Totally agree on this.
Spending some time listening to Vangelis soundtrack from Blade Runner and even that in isolation is perfection.
The BEST sci fi film ever.
Missed going to the theatre.
Dune is one of those movies that have to be watched on the big screen and with Dolby Atmos.
Unfortunately my cinema changed the cheese dip for their Nacho Chips
Goody. That’s on my list along with the new Batman.
To research a little on Robert Pattinson and his potential as Batman I decided to watch High Life. Probably one of the most odd, difficult to follow and disturbing films I think I’ve ever seen.
That said it appears that Pattinson always plays the quiet broody type. If he can add a little internal rage and a broken personality to that he could possibly be a very good Batman / Bruce Wayne.
You better not watch The Lighthouse then (if we’re talking solely about Pattinson).
The guy has made me eat humble pie - I thought he was one of those icons for teenage girls but he’s become one of the best actors I’ve seen so far, definitely one of my favourites. If you didn’t watch it, please have a look at Good Time, Cosmopolis and The Rover - he’s immense in all of them.
I may well do. I must admit the trailers of the new Batman film I’ve seen have been impressive IMO. He seems to have captured the essence of the character - a pretty screwed person basically.
But High Life is just weird, really weird. Not Pattinson’s fault, it’s the story line and script etc. is hard work. For me anyway.
Ive tried the Lighthouse multiple times and couldnt ever finish it. I dont think i was in the state of mind for such a slow film the first time and now ive developed a bit of a mental block
The Lighthouse had all the ingredients for a film I should have loved, but I just didn’t. But the same is true of a lot of the A24 movies which seem to be so highly rated like The VVitch and Midsommar which I both found massively underwhelming.
Anyone with any thoughts on the upcoming Matrix sequel?
Apprehensive would be my feelings having felt two and three in the original trilogy were more than a little underwhelming to say the least.
Good luck trying to fill the boots of Laurence Fishborne.
