its all set up imo.
I don’t think it was set up.
I do think it was hilarious.
He was laughing at first because he didn’t understand the joke. He should have finished with Jada after she cheated on him but he became strongly protective of her instead.
Will was wrong to slap Chris Rock but it was the funniest thing to happen at the Oscars outside of Ricky Gervais calling them all peadophiles a few years ago.
Golden Globes I think that was. I hate Gervais but that was brilliant.
Chris Rock was in the wrong (intentionally or unintentionally) but once Will Smith hits him in front a worldwide audience and the Academy roll with it and give him an award 10 minutes later, that sends the message that violence is a okay with everyone involved.
Weirdo narcisist acts like an awful twat without consideration for repercussions. I dont know why people are so quick to assume it must be staged, especially given how badly its gone down and without the ability to identify what the benefit of said bit would be.
Because it was such a ridiculous situation. The Oscars are now all over the media (planned IMHO). One does not walk up to the host of that event and SLAP him after a shit joke about one’s wife’s hair or lack thereof. Punching him would be the response from somebody with the IQ of a log but a slap? Really?
Yep I agree on much of those points. Will was clearly chuckling about the joke but he either (a) thought it was funny and didn’t realise it had offended his wife until looking at her or (b) hadn’t got the joke yet when he was chuckling. Its possibly A which would make him look a bit of a cunt doing what he ended up doing. Even if he went up on stage and confronted CR about it in front of everyone without laying a hand on him I think everyone would be behind WS on that. But he instantly had to take it to violence. At least he didn’t throw an actual fist I guess?
No way that was set up though. It makes little sense for WS to be part of a stunt like that. It IMO was a seriously tasteless joke so they both really did act like wankers.
In any case, quarrels between a bunch of millionaires in posh suits is pretty insignificant when taking in all the absolute shit that’s going on in the world right now.
CR coming out with a broken jaw may just see him press charges. WS took the second to last best action.
That was The Grammy’s, but was pure fucking brilliance, and the fact he mentioned multiple times that it was the last time he was hosting so didn’t give a fuck makes it even funnier
Gervais’ speeches were at the golden globes and he’s done about 5 of them.
And as Sweeting correctly points out those speeches were about the only interesting thing to happen at these award ceremonies ever.
See weirdo narcissist perpetrator.
Pretty sure they’re all weirdo narcissists.
Which surely makes abhorrent seemingly unexplainable behavior easier to understand without having to contrive some alternative explanation for it, no?
Possibly. But all things considered, (of that I’m aware) it seems very much like a stunt. Did the job certainly as nobody cared about the Oscars until last night.
Plenty of people were interested. The coverage today should have been about Coda pulling off a surprise win or a first win for a queer woman of colour, or ironically Will Smith finally winning his first Oscar.
Now nobody cares because Will Smith couldn’t control his temper. There’s no positive for the Academy to take from this, so staging it would have been pointless.
Thought Will Smith did already win an Oscar for playing Muhammad Ali in 2002 but after checking I found out that Denzel Washington won that one (Training Day).
at least we know two things:
1 - Chris Rock has a solid chin
2 - Will Smith took on a role of a boxing icon, 20 years later he’s slapping like a girl.
Given 2 I don’t think we can assume 1.
Solid point. Your logic stands
Must’ve been hella awkward to carry on with the show & giving him the award after…but what else can the exec producers do? They can’t stop the show.
