Oops, don’t let me put you off. Might just be my own personal taste. I put it as average rather than awful. There are some good ideas in there.
Not a problem. I’m a sci fi sucker so would probably watch it anyway. If it bombs I might just head back and watch Clara, which has become a sneaky little favourite of mine. I think it really goes under the radar that film.
Thinking about it. Anyone got any other sci fi suggestions on Amazon Prime, Netfilx or Disney+ at the moment?
Last of the Mohicans
Legends of the Fall
Apocalypto
The Revenant
Into the Wild
Yes I know there’s a theme!
Of ‘new’ movies(2022) Netflix has The Adam Project and Spiderhead, neither of which are fantastic but both are watchable. Not a huge amount of sci-fi from this year though so far.
The only other one I saw recently was a Chinese movie called ‘The Wandering Earth’ which I think is on Netflix. Again it’s not fantastic, but it’s slim pickings at the moment.
Going back further Source Code (Prime), Extinction (Netflix), and Looper (Netflix) are all worth a watch if you haven’t already seen them.
I love Sci Fi but hate sci fi films becuse they are invariably so badly done and dumbed down.
Some interestings you might not have seen/known about to consider
- Colossal
- Under the Skin
- Annihilation
- Frequency
- Sunshine (and/or Even Horizon)
- Primer
- Predestination
Not all great films per se, but interesting enough attempts to make them worthwhile. Last one is the tops
So many you forget as well, Last of the Mohicans is up there with the very best.
Bloody hell, I’ve found my soulmate! I didn’t like Primer, though, sorry!
Yeah, Im not sure I did either. Same with Annihilation honestly, but I think they both still offered a treatment interesting to enough to offer something worthwhile.

I haven’t seen the movie but the book (trilogy) is one my all time favorite. Very sorrowful though.
I’ve only seen the first film, but looking forward to the others.
There’s a whole heap of Ray films I still haven’t seen.
I think I have seen the third part Apur Sangsar
Predestination is a gem I agree. A few there I haven’t seen so will add to my list. Thanks!!
Black Site
Pretty one dimensional, trailer makes it look much better than it is.
Whole CIA base being outfought by a guy with a knife.
So, I watched this last night and I’m on exactly the same page as you. Trying to do too much and the screen play (or something) resulted in it being a bit of a mess. Some really questionable stuff going on as well I think. A physicist would tear it to shreds. Still watchable but not one I’ll return to.
I watched Draft Day last night. Kevin Costner. I actually enjoyed it. I know nothing of the draft process or how it works etc.so this was a pretty fascinating look in, even if it was dramatised.
I think I have a thing for fact based fiction.
Some crackers on that list
Cheers WJ.
Mind you, it’s so long and varied that most people will like at least a couple of them.
I think All Quiet on the Western Front and Scent of a Woman should have made the lists.
I have totally forgotten what Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Pulp Fiction were about, but I remember that I liked them. Now I’m tentative to watch them again fearing that I wouldn’t like them anymore.
That movie unfortunately let itself down with one of the most unrealistic draft day trading possible. Kevin Costner essentially would have been fired immediately were he to do that in real life.
I haven’t watched it in a long time but as I remember it he decides unanimously on draft day to not take the player they were planning to (who is a local player, loves the Browns and will likely be available at their pick in the middle of the draft) and instead gives all his draft capital to Seattle to move up to the number 1 spot to take a QB they haven’t scouted even a little bit and it then turns out is a real shithead. So then they pick the local player they wanted in the middle of the draft at number 1 overall - which essentially means they have to pay him a lot more money and miss out on better players - then they trade again back into the first round to trick Seattle into giving them back all their picks they traded and they take a running back with the mid-round pick.
Other than that it’s a fun movie!
