The Film Thread

For me, even the action sequences were so choreographed they became boring. If you compare the scene where they raid a village before he goes on his main mission to similar pieces like the attack in the woods in The Revenant or the heist scene in the first season of True Detective; two scenes which took my breath away and one that nearly put me to sleep.

Have you seen Devils Advocate?

I like Keanu in the movies I’ve seen him in, but I only have watched the ones I think I will like.

Bill and Ted 1 and 2
Speed
Matrix trilogy (even if the second 2 are not great, he is ok)
My Own Private Idaho
Dracula
Point Break
Devil’s Advocate
Chain Reaction

I guess I didn’t really like anything about the Day the Earth Stood Still remake. That’s probably his worst that i’ve seen.

you forgot John Wick.

I was never a fan of his and could never see why he was so popular. However, I’ve warmed a little to him over the years but it is odd that considering the success of some of his movies, he has rarely got good reviews for his performances in them.
I must be one of the only people not to have watched Point break beyond the first 10-15 minutes or Speed.

I think of his earlier stuff the Steve Martin film Parenthood is probably my favourite, but he doesn’t have a particularly big role in that. Of the rest, I enjoyed Johnny Mnemonic, Matrix and John Wick. A scanner Darkly was also ok.

He seems a really nice bloke though.

Point Break is a wonderful film. It’s absolutely ludicrous, but somehow it works. It could have gone down the route of being so bad its good. But instead they did the “this should be shit, but it’s somehow brilliant.”

And the Chillis are in it

Maybe I’ll give it another go then. I always feel I’m missing out on something with it because of Hot Fuzz!

That’s what comes with living a private life and I suppose the way he handled the comments made by Perry couple months back saw him in a greater light.

There have been stories over the last 20 years or so about his gifting presents to the film crews, flying them out to premiere’s, donations to children’s hospitals etc.

No, I just never watched it.

Wouldn’t bother, most overrated trilogy of all time.

In the first once some wannabe gangster kills his dog and he goes hunting for revenge.
Second one someone burned his house down, yawn, goes hunting for revenge.
Third one his master places a bounty on his head which keeps increasing the longer he’s alive…ends up killing about half of America who are hunting him…couple of slick moves and eye catching choreography.

And that’s about it.

I don’t think much of him as an actor (because he’s been acting with the same facial expression and the same vocal pitch for the best part of last twenty years, and majority of those films weren’t anything to write home about anyway) but I love him and everything about him - is it OK to put it this way? If I ran into him in the street (which I kind of hope I do because I heard he’d visit Serbia soon and stick around for a couple of weeks), I’d ask him if I could give him a hug and I’d tell him he’s breathtaking.

The first two Bill & Ted movies are among my favourite films of all time and I’m really, really not a fan of comedies. Dracula, the first Matrix and A Scanner Darkly are a must see, as is Point Break (and I loved your reference of Hot Fuzz references). Yeah, I liked Constantine as well…

I don’t like part 2 & 3 but I do love the first one. I think part of the overrating is because the first one was a bit of a sleeper hit.

Weirdly white surpremacists have taken the John Wick series to their hearts. They see it as an allegory of the white race (Reeves’ character) fighting for survival.

They’re a weird bunch.

I thought he played his part in 47 Ronin quite well…

Interesting question re Keanu Reeves. On reflection turns out I love aot of his movies. He’s not a great actor by any stretch of the imagination, but it works for him. Constantine being my favourite and hopefully the talk of a sequel bears fruit.

To echo what others have said, he seems a genuinely good human being with a compassion for others. His own personal tragedies are well documented, and like Nicola said, if I ever met him I’d give him a warm embrace.

He’s really good in Toy Story 4 and Super Pets as Batman!

There are a lot of similarities with Fight Club in that its marketing presented it as a completely different film than it actually was. It was focused almost exclusive on the action parts that would attract teenage boys with almost nothing in the marketing suggesting the deeper themes in the film existed. That meant most of the fan base who’d ultimately come to love it missed it in the cinemas.

Poor Henry Cavill. Walks away from the Witcher, Aaron Taylor-Johnson skips to the front of the queue for Bond and now dropped by DC as Superman.
