How I wish someone would stand up and respond in kind right in his/their face.
Thatâs a bad strategy. Happened with Rustad in the recent BC election in Canada too. It doesnât matter what they say, nobody can fact check fast enough or really care to fact check. Actually, the logic of this camp is that if they appear a lot on mainstream media they must be legit.
I remember barely 10 years ago AfD was a joke and Germany was on course to clean out the Neo Nazi elements from the police and military. I was in France when the people rejected Le Pen firmly, and around the same time the youth in England used Twitter to call for a national wide riot against police brutality. People got complacent or what in the last 10 years?

That lets him get away lightly.
The 2 year old girl and her mother who had been badly injured by the attack in Munich have died. So very sad.
To say something positive - watched the âQuadrellâ last night on stupid RTL.
Four candidates all on one stage (CDU, SPD, Greens and AfD). That was much better from the three parties attacking the AfD. Even Merz was quite good on that. No idea if this has any influence on results, but we need more of that.
Sounds normal.

The mother that was killed in Munich was born in Algeria, was 4 yrs old when she came to Germany. Worked as an egineer, was active in the union. Her family has written a letter pleading the deaths not to be instrumentalised politically.
In this poll only 20% agreed that immigration should be the most important for parties in the election/campaign. Even a minority amongst AfD voters. Polls, eh?
But yeah, itâs a huge part of the discourse. Practically all parties are making proposals how to better manage immigration.
I think again, the government needs to understand what exactly are most of the people concerned about immigration and asylum. I believe the real xenophobes who thinks all immigration and foreigners are not wanted are a sizeable but still minority of these people. Most people are probably worried what they perceived or led to believe what immigration cost them negatively. Lesser jobs, lesser affordable housing, lesser security. These are the real issues that the government need to look at resolving. Unless the Germans are really looking at immigration as the end of it all issue then I have nothing to say but I still choose to believe that most people have more basic concerns than immigration itself.
I read today in the newspapers that in Switzerland, the numbers of asylum seekers has gone back 8.2% in 2024, when compared with 2023. I wonder what the numbers are for Germany?
Edit; got it:
The current government are obviously doing a good job on reducing the numbers lately, but hey, they are incompetent and letâs vote for the other party, and the AfD while we are at it, ehâŠ
That possibly excludes Ukrainian refugees as they were evacuating the country rather than claiming asylum as such.
Yeah, Ukrainians arenât included in that statistic. The same applies for Switzerland, as they have a special status here too.
Anyway, numbers prove once again that putting the question of immigration as nr. 1 priority is deeply irrational. People should be concerned about their jobs, the quality of their housing, climatic and environmental issues, and all other social aspects of the society they live in. Immigration is just a part-aspect of all this.
It has always been deeply irrational, especially in countries which are having issues with inversion of the population pyramid. It always usually boils down to xenophobia, and Iâm not saying that in a judgemental way. There is a reason after all why ânot you, youâre one of the good onesâ is such a common trope.
How many of them will be terrified when it really is just Ahmed, their friendly pharmacist? Or Vanya, their local delivery driver whoâs always going the extra mile to ensure that he delivers their parcels to their neighbours when theyâre out? Or even Fatimah, the nurse whoâs taking care of them?
