Postal voting documents not received at all or received too late

The lack of voting documents for many Germans abroad could become a problem, especially if it’s tight

The far-right is on the verge of gaining power in Germany and he’s demonising the Greens?
Why hasn’t this von Papen tribute act had his support at the polls collapse yet?
To be fair to Merz, this anti-Green agenda was mainly promoted by Söder, head of the Bavarian CSU. But yes, I would have wanted him to distance himself much stronger from this agenda
And although their 20% are a disgrace the far right are nowhere near gaining power.
That’s what they said about the FN in 2017, or the PVV before. Forgive me, but I always see parties that are in the top two, within a realistic chance of being the top party, as “near gaining power”. It doesn’t take much for one party to sell out and form a coalition with them.
Quite honestly, I think the latest devolopments with the US has made this less likely, at least for the moment.
Personally expect the relevant non-extreme parties to get their fucking shit together, they better.
We can’t afford being a lame duck for a long time. One thing to emphasise differences in a campaign, but after this is done they need to get back to realising that in the really important, big picture questions there’s mostly agreement or at least no insurmountable difference.
From my distant, uninformed view, it does worry me because Merz looks quite like a piece of shit.
From my closer, slightly more informed view he does too. Unfortunately a significant portion of those fricking Germans don’t seem to agree. And as I’ve said a lot, I’m very worried too. That being said, at least he certainly isn’t pro Putin for example.
Took the Mrs to see a little bit of the gathering part of the ‘Geisterzug’, just got back. Sort of a countercultural mixture of street carnival march and Halloween. Apart from the usual zombie, witches, ghost costumes and the endless pun variations revolving around fucking the AfD, there was a new popular costume - bloody faced Canadian hockey player. Somehow that amused me.
Problem is he could risk damaging his own party if he sides with the AFD.
Let’s hope they don’t get any higher than their polling.
I think the “Union” will get slightly more than the polling. SPD perhaps might but the AFD have been stuck around 20% for a while of course it’s going be talked up but I do feel it could be their high point.
I don’t think Populism is going to on a forward projectory with 4 more years of this Trump government.
It seems to already be making some impacts in Canadian politics. Thankfully France is 2 years away. Though even Le Pen is having to bend over backwards to appear more sensible.
I’m really depressed now and don’t expect anything good. I’m going to vote now.
Ja, du mich auch Fritzi.
Reportedly very high turnout. Some I read fear that may mean many votes for the AFD, more than as a reaction to it.
But I don’t know. I am out of the loop in German politics the last 4-5 years. It was part of the reason why I created this thread, so I could exploit our Germans for their (biased sure, but some of you have very good heads and I appreciate particularly @Cologne-Liverpool more in-depth posts here) knowledge on the temperature.
Thank you all for your posts (I appreciate you all, please don’t misunderstand, it is just that Cologne has written some longer posts that has contained information that was of interest in particular to me; I hardly meant it as I appreciate only his posts exclusively, as Livvy’s tweets and the other posts are valauble as well obviously ).
Let’s hope that it’s the latter, and that plenty of people are voting to ensure the AfD do not get in.
I’m not sure how they can work that out unless they mean postal votes. Having said that, I dropped my wife off at the polling station this afternoon and it did seem very busy.
I’ve also noticed lots of comments from foreign right wingnuts on Facebook absolutely creaming themselves because they think that the AfD are going form the next government. I expect that they will claim it is all rigged when the AfD sre forced to crawl back into their bunker.
With their cyanide pills I hope.
No, they mean on the day voting. The comparison to 2021 is a bit misleading though, as because of Covid there was an unusally high percentage of postal votes.
Wouldn’t be surprised if there was a very high turnout though.
I meant political scientists :). I read a lot, but I don’t take every voice seriously. I don’t think a serious person expects the AfD to be in actual government, for now
Exit poll:
SPD: 16.0%
CDU: 29.0%
Grüne: 13.5%
FDP: 4.9%
AfD: 19.5%
Linke: 8.5%
BSW: 4.7%
others:3.9%
Turnout 84%
Pretty much exactly as predicted. ZDF has the FDP at 5%, whether they’re in or not (possibly the BSW as well) is likely the decisive question going forward. Merz shenanigans only has woken up the far left (Linke).
AfD second biggest party. That’s all I can think about sadly…
