The German Election

Easily within the margin of error. I was just taking down the percentages from the ticker during the match.

Oh of course, you’re exactly right. I was just pointing out that ARD and ZDF have different numbers.

This is really appalling. Ignoring even that, it seems as though the AfD have broad-based support across all ages.

They had exit poll data as to which percentage and which voters of which parties would like AfD in a government coalition. It’s mostly just AfD voters. Maybe media and politcians could just respect the 80% that didn’t vote for the AfD and the overwhelming majority, including of CDU voters, that don’t want them running the country for a change. Enough with them dictating the discourse.

That’s some fractured parliament.

Only those gaining over 5% are represented, so it isn’t quite as bad.

The actual counts show CDU slightly lower and AfD higher so we will have to wait until tomorrow for the final figure.

German Worldwide media and politicians:

(Sorry Joe)

Now Merz, one day after insulting millions of voters just yesterday, calling them idiots and cuckoo in the brain, wants to be the chancellor of all Germans.
And no, Mr Merz, it wasn’t just ‘Antifa’ that was in the streets protesting.

I don’t know how he’s managed to come across as such an insufferably arrogant twat to me in just a few short exposures to him.

But he’s like that stereotypical full of themselves banker isn’t he?

Look on the bright side, as you walk down the street only 1 in 5 or so are fuckwits. In the US, that is a coin-toss

Or you could be @cynicaloldgit with a 100% success rate.

Anyway, don’t think anyone here cares about much else but the AfD.
So last post - FDP is looking to fall just short of 5%, BSW seems to be rather thin, 4.9-5.0. That latter result (because how it changes the mathematics of appointed seats) will likely decide whether we’ll get a Grand Coalition or if the Greens are needed as a third party.

Well I do but I couldn’t give a shit about the AFD.

I still think this is high watermark stuff, we will have a million and one articles about this but it’s not going matter as Merz has basically called the AFD fascist they won’t play a part in the next government.

He probably has no idea about coalitions here

I strongly suspect he thinks the conservative party is the AfD he has heard good stuff about. Remember, he doesn’t read briefing notes.

You’d assume so especially has Soder made a statement tonight that Ukraine is not a vassal state of Russia

Loving the fact he third-person’d himself.

Reminds me of The Jimmy…

It is quite possible that the BSW will now contact Karlsruhe (Bundesverfassungsgericht) and file a lawsuit due to the missing postal voting documents abroad.
Since the result is extremely close and the formation of a government is also strongly influenced by it, this could even lead to new elections. (If BSW were in the Bundestag, it would not be enough seats for a GroKo)

If that does not happen, then I am fairly pleased. It is unfortunate with the AfD, but I always thought they were going to flood forward due to so much free (and very powerful) propaganda by the international Ultra Right. 21 percent is of course much too much, as it can mean that they cement their position as a big German party. But that is not a foregone conclusion.
