I don’t have any strong opinion on him - but jumping from Portugal to Liverpool seems a big step to me and all the stuff about how he’s the best man manager, a master of tactics etc. is all things we’ve heard before about the likes of Villas-Boas, Martinez, de Boer, Juande Ramos and countless others.

Make no mistake, I think he has the potential to be a brilliant manager but yes he does give Villas-Boas vibes…Who would be your choice and why since Xabi is out of the picture
That was my feeling, although there were co-ordinated announcements with both coaching staff and directors. I’m pretty sure that would not have happened unless they were sure of who they were after.

There doesn’t appear to be an obvious choice to me, nobody that will appeal to the fan base anyway.
Emery or Ange aren’t coming, why would Villa or Spurs even allow them to speak with us? It’s all a bit concerning.

Seems to me that managers like Alonso and Amorim don’t want to have to fill Jurgen’s shoes. It’s easier to stay where you are or take a job with less pressure for immediate success. It’s the same issue that Man U faced when replacing Fergie.
Yes, my guess is it was a swing for Xabi with the other links being an attempt to cover/ limit the awkwardness if it failed.
They almost certainly had preferred options, though they likely didn’t start reaching out to candidates until after Klopp’s departure was publicly disclosed and after Edwards was hired. Until they do that, it doesn’t matter who’s on their preferred list - they don’t know who actually would come here.
