Yep, I also think there’s a narrative for using signings to keep the fans quiet. Ronaldo, for me, exemplifies this. From developing a balanced squad perspective he makes little sense. Claiming the return of the prodigal son to keep Twitter happy on the other hand. Cavani may also be in that category.

The self righteous mantra Utd fans told us in the period after Fergie that Utd dont fire their manager was one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever heard. It used to wind me up for the sheer stupidity of it, but now I enjoy it as evidence of their magical thinking that prevents them making real choices.

He’s a really good player and a jewel of a human being (I hate the fact that he’s playing for them of all clubs). This is really poor form from Solskjaer, he (and other PL managers) should be encouraging such behaviour, not the opposite.
