The Manchester United Thread: That's It. That's the Joke (Part 1)

What has happened to United? Dembele reeks of desperation.

I get this and have said similar, but I do understand the thinking. Their front 3 is being rated as good enough on the basis of a small period of form after the restart that is being shown to be non-representative of how good sides actually are. Not one of them has ever put in an entire season of performances at that level, and so assuming they are good enough up front already requires all 3 of them to break that trend right now, or relies on someone like James or Lingard being able to step in and pick up the slack. Neither of those things is happening.

Yet, that still doesnt change that they do also need to spend at the back.

Yep, agree with you, however it feels backwards, unless they have stuff lined up for the midfield and defence.

It’s a bit like owning a car that has a gearbox on the way out and 4 bald tyres, but spending the money on upgrading the turbo and putting neon lights under the car.

A team of Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, Bruno, Pogba, Van de beek, aint bad at all. A decent coach could do serious damage with those talents and pace if used correctly in the right set up.

What they need is a DM to shield the back 4 and a CB to organise them. Like Ndidi type, Neves etc.

Reminded me of when Rodgers had a thing for attacking midfield, and went crazy and bought Firmino and Lallana, even though we had Coutinho, and completely ignoring the defence.

Maitland-Niles? What the f*ck do they do with him? If it’s true about that possible deal.

goldbridge was going on about how shit maitland-niles is during monday’s match, guess i know where i’m heading now

I think he has played really well against the last two times and so Ive been confused about his supposedly precarious position at Arsenal. Is he just refusing to sign a new contract there?

So long as they continue doing it for another 30+ years, there’ll be no complaints from me.

transfermarkt says he’s signed through 2023, seems like he’s just out of favor

would’ve f–ked bellerin off to help fund partey or aouar if given the chance, personally, seems like he gets a ton of mileage out of being spanish and having the la masia pedigree

Suppose Arsenal think there is more value moving him on.

But yeah did Man Utd recruit Comolli recently?

He is still playing regularly. He has played the two games against us this season and I think he was even the MotM in the Charity Shield, but for some reason there appears to be questions about whether he will stay. I can only think that he is the one holding out over terms he doesnt like.

He’s playing as a LWB at the moment, maybe wants to go somewhere where he could play as a dynamic midfielder. Thought Wolves would be more of an option for him. Don’t know why United need him.

yeah i thought he was MOTM in the shield, the broadcast agreed, and he ended up getting it from the match officials or whoever

wolves evidently balked at the fee and ended up going for semedo (& hoever) instead

the united links seem spurious from cursory investigation, but he doesn’t seem to particularly be in arsenal’s long-term plans

20-30 years?

Pretty decent cup side Ole has put out today. Ordinarily you;d look at a 2nd string that strong and think they’re in great shape. The problem is it would stand a pretty good shot at beating the first team.
