The Manchester United Thread: That's It. That's the Joke (Part 1)

I think that is over stated. People confuse players not having played in a side that is set up (and asked) to high press with an inability of a player to do it. It is often thought of as this exhausting approach that requires players to be top athletes, but that’s not a description of many of the players from Pep’s peak Barca side. Doing it right is far more about team cohesion, quick thinking and bravery than having the legs to run around.

There are plenty of players at Utd who can play in that system. It’s just that several of the key ones probably dont fit. Again, its not that they couldnt do it, but for them to be effective with the ball they have to think about their positions when we’re defending differently than is required in a pressing side. think about rafa and Torres. Rafa actively asked Torres to not worry too much about defending because he wanted him to instead focus on taking positions where he could be a dangerous out ball once someone else on the side won the ball back.

Ralf was probably just asked to write a 6month school report on the Utd squad…
What happens at the end of the season with that information, or whom he passes it onto to take up the reins will probably be decided after much more deliberation between all parties… Oh, and whether whiskey nose fears the new boss will threaten his legacy… in which case, me thinks WN will veto him out of Manchester asap and get some numpty back in…

And Rashford, I’d say.

Mate you’ve got to stop this. He’s shite. I get that you’ve got a boner for him because of his activism, but he’s been dreck on the pitch for a good long while now.

I don’t think the fans have enough patience for a longer term project, and it is going to be long term. We barely had enough.
Man Utd (owners) will continue to buy players that help with marketing rather than team dynamic.
The overhaul at united goes beyond players and managers. The facilities are significantly behind, and this is something else that will eat into profits so do you think the owners would go for that?

I personally think the owners will do anything to placate the masses without risking return.

How much more money can UTD really be worth?

My basic view of leverage specialists is that they milk, asset strip, or turn a quick profit. The Glazers are dairy farmers.

The answer is none. None…more money.

Speaking of money…

Apparently NOW it’s time to spend…they’ve been penny pinching for so long, the squad has really suffered…

Capturehaha

I don’t think so. It’s not as if they are buying whole teams of well marketed players. They hung on to Pogba for fear of not being able to attract a certain calibre of player, and they went out and signed Ronaldo, but other than that I’m having difficulty thinking of other players. They just bought poorly.

Even if were true, it’s not as if you couldn’t find players that can both fit the team dynamic and are attractive for marketing purposes.

No guarantee they will even get into European competition next season either

They’d not go far wrong wazzing us £50mil for Phillips, he’d be an upgrade and give them some backbone.

Disagree. They bought Maguire for £80m. Phillips is the better player. And we’re a better team than Leicester. £150m or we riot.

Rangnick isn’t an idiot sadly. I’d expect unlike kid Ole he will have an input into good/bad deals.

So he will recommend Phillips!!! :exploding_head:

I think the Sancho is also a marketing buy. I really don’t think they needed him.

I’m not talking marketing megastars type players, I think there are only about 4 of those and we already have one of them. On second thoughts maybe the “next shiny new toy” is more in line with their strategy.

Ok maybe 5, Mo, the three at the French oil club, and the old guy from the toilet. That guy from the UK oil club isn’t really, he’s just ginger.

100%. Same with Bruno. The deluded cunts over on’t Caf would wax lyrical about Ole’s “squad building” prowess, but in reality, they’ve only really gone after obvious big-name signings and little else aside from maybe Dan Jame/Amad/Pellistri. they’re a complete shitshow and Rangnick isn’t going to change that in 6 months or even 2 years. their board/owners only care about money and marketing. Nothing else.

Pretty sure both Bruno and Sancho were offered (and preferred) to us first.

Just checked out BBC (the website) and saw “Youthful Man Utd side held by Young Boys”. It seems inappropriately misleading.

“Youthful”? They played 4 first teamers and of the other 7 you could class two of them as being youthful.

They will do anything to big this up
