To be fair to Goldbridge he isn’t simply saying its not because they don’t spend. He blames them for not managing the club letting things carry on as usual.

Why was he moaning? What’s the point? They weren’t going to win it.
Part of me wanted them in the CL.
I want more European games with them, the 15/16 duel (only one in history!) wasn’t enough.
But who cares, let them rotten. There are other brilliant challenges to get excited about.
Their approach to Old Trafford is indicative of the problem. They inherited the best football stadium in the country and in 15 years have barely spent a penny on the upkeep to the point that their newly stated commitment to fix the issues with the stadium include potentially ripping the whole bastard down such is the state of disrepair.

Will it though? Wouldnt the most Utd thing ever be to dally over finding a permanent hire and just stick with Ralfie…immediately after ignoring his recommendations on player personnel and resigning Ronaldo and Pogba.
