Bit of an early announcement, Ajax have lost the cup final (PSV’s first cup success in 10 years) a few days ago and are in a title fight, nothing secured. I’d be a bit dissapointed from an Ajax fan perspective.
But United probably forced this through to give the club/team a “kick”.
Ajax seem to have fully embraced the role of Cuk. It is one thing to accept that they dont have the pull to keep anyone at any level who generates interest, but Ajax seems to actively promote the idea of being as much of a shop window as they are an actual club competing for trophies. So I think they just accept this sort of disruption as being the normal result of a successful season.
He could be a good manager for them if he is able to sort it out at all levels. Lots of problems there with coaching, signings, no joined up thinking, lazy players, wages too high for what they bring, etc.
Second last season and they added a world class perennial winner in Varane to help the defence; brought one of the games greatest players home at great expense to bang in the goals; and added an exciting young attacking talent in Sancho to help lead them on. It was perfect.
Except it wasn’t. They went backwards and now they look bereft of ideas. They are only in the top four conversation because of the problems of others with finding any consistency.
It all needs an overhaul. If they think it just needs a signing or two to spruce the place up, they are in big trouble. The whole club needs a reset. Younger, hungrier, players on lesser wages need to be shaped into a team. And they need a new stadium.
Their debts are going to spiral off the charts. Big job for the new man.
