Long distance routes can often have lots of options via other countries. E.g. flying to the far east or Australia will have direct routes but also options via the middle east. Thatās why youāll see sponsorship from airlines in those areas.

Not far off. Ā£50,000 per year. It seemed like a big deal at the time, although they werenāt initially allowed to use it on televised games.

In Turkey, there is apparently little enthusiasmāto put it mildlyāfor this deal and the fact that so much money is being paid to an English ārivalā instead of being invested in domestic clubs or Turkish sport in general.

I think that was due to the Bezos investment. Presumably, this deal has been in the pipeline for a while.
I was listening to the Richard Osman podcast last week, and he mentioned that the attraction of buying into football clubs for billionaires like that is that they are seen as a limited and tangible asset. A bit like buying classic works of art. They retain value through scarcity.
If that is the case, then itās possible that he is simply a silent partner looking to secure capital.
Interesting view from 1892 holdings to use LFC to secure capitalā¦I donāt think that Bezos and his partners in the 1892 holdings are just looking to be silent partners in LFCā¦From my limited understanding of the deal that went down, 1892 holdings bought 38% of LFC from FSG and has a clause to increase their stake to a controlling one for an agreed valuation.
This is why I am surprised that Amazon wasnāt the front of shirt sponsor unless Bezos himself is aiming for something bigger? Stadium naming rights? Training kit sponsor?
Would Anfield become the Bezos Stadium @ Anfield or Anfield stadium powered by 1892 holdings? OMFG!

Although heās the largest shareholder at Amazon, heās no longer the chairman. So Iām not sure how strong the Amazon angle is here
I think his point was that Bezosās interest is in securing his money in a tangible asset. Similar to people buying a van Goch or something. Obviously, a business like a football club needs people to run it, hence why others are involved in the partnership.
Anyway, if he wants an Amazon stadium, he should have invested in a Brazilian club.

I suspected there might be considerable aversion to this shirt sponsor, and naturally, there is immediate, strong resistance from the āanti-Muslim campāāpeople vowing not to buy any more shirts for the next five years, as well as those who simply feel that having that Turkish logo on the chest would make the shirts look far too cheap and embarrassing to wear etc.

There are moronic supporters at every club, so you canāt win. Anyone taking umbrage at a Turkish firm sponsoring the club just because it is an Islamic nation and populated by brown people, needs to find a new club. For me, their Ā£60m a year is more than welcome. Thank you Turkish Airlines!

I was sort of thinking it would be Amazon but that was probably too obvious. Maybe Turkish Airlines were in the pipeline before the consortium bought in?
I can understand proud Turks not wanting their airline to enrich a rich club in the richest league, and they would rather see the money spent on their own.
