Pep talking about investors and not new owners
My guess is that the Newcastle sale to MBS helped to tip the balance for FSG on selling. They know that the unlimited spending of Newcastle will make securing top 4 that much more difficult going forward. Youāve got to compete with the seemingly unlimited budgets of City, Newcastle, and Chelsea.
Liverpoolās value as a club is higher than itās ever been, in part because of their recent successes which may be harder to maintain going forward. Itās a good time for them to sell the club (even if itās only a significant piece of it).
I just hope the Rickettses donāt buy this club. Old Joe Ricketts is a terrible bigot, and most of his kids support some pretty terrible political entities in the US. Iām also not convinced that theyāll invest what is necessary to compete with the best clubs in Europe.
Itās not like Man United has been afraid to spend money. Theyāve spent a boatload but not wisely. Man City have more resources, but they have spent far more wisely and run their club much better.
Maybe Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham would not be perennial contenders as things stand, but certainly any of the lot could win a championship in a given year. Or UCL, which Man City have not won yet, in spite of all their spending.
Newcastle should have the firepower to compete. Do they yet have the organization? Weāll see.
After the way they got booed out of the Chelsea deal I cannot imagine them putting their hat in the ring again so soon.
Iām the same. I was thinking about posting that a sale may trigger me into no longer following. Just the thought that the likes of City and soon Newcastle have deconstructed the game into a dick measuring contest my interest is seriously waning.
The game is eating itself, and itās welcome to it.
Well your post leaves me with a question then: who in his right mind will be ready to buy this club at say 3 billions if revenue canāt be maximised further? It doesnāt make much sense.
Also, while I agree with your post, this bit hereā¦
The fans will have no choice. We have absolutely no say in what will unfold and can just watch on and hope for the best. And in fact, based on pure spending, we are already a club living within itās own means more or less. I donāt expect this to change, unless a new version of g+h shows up, or on the contrary and even worse, one of these fishy sports-washing states. Hopefully not, fingers crossed.
We can only hope for a reasonably levelheaded owner or group of owners, who will continue to steer the club on the path which has been set up, and who will be willing to develop the sporting side in order to compete (but again, why would they want to pay 3 billions for that?). fsg have shown that it can be done when you have the luck to have a genius like Klopp at the helm. Ergo, that man must be kept at all costs now throughout these next years. Just like Ferguson when the Glazers came in, heāll be the glue holding everything together.
If he leaves simultaneously with fsg, or is quickly dispatched by the new ownership, thenā¦
interesting. his uncle is a season ticket holder. I was given his ticket to attend the match in 2019. .
Couldnāt have that crime mob linked rapist involved with us. Wonder how much heās worth though?
he doesnāt have it. even with Proper 12 out there he isnāt even close.
Heās fighter rich, but not remotely close to the sort of money that moves the needle on these sort of deals.
Donāt underestimate the stupidity or arrogance of American business men. They think theyāll go out to the provinces and show all the morons how itās done. Like the Chelsea guy with the all-star game. āwe just made 2 mil (or whatever he said) with an all-star game weekend, itās easyā. Obviously they can do it better than the all the fools over the pond. Theyāll have games overseas like the NFL does, playoffs, etc. etc. All will try and impose the American sports model overseas without realizing just how much blow back it will generate. āwell, there will be some, but theyāll get used to itāā¦
The closed league with guaranteed revenue will be passed at some point. I donāt know how or when but it will happen. Too many owners want it. Prospective owners will think they have some new smart angle on that as well. To many wealthy guys think they are the smartest person in the room for someone not to take a swing on the fact they can ring more value out of LFC.
FSGās eagerness to spend will be increased by bringing in outside investors should they decide to stay on. If we can maintain a similar version of our current setup by then, there is no reason to assume that we wonāt be in a top 3 fighting for honors each year.
I do agree though that from FSGās point of view it is a decline accompanied by increasing costs.
I really donāt think FSG has any interest in diluting their holdings in order to facilitate throwing funds into a competition where they donāt see a viable return on investment.

whoa
easy now on the common sense and all that. too much too soon.
I think FSG know the ESL will happen one day with the TV franchise and money pouring in from itā¦ I also think they know they need to play the long game to achieve itā¦ so in the meantime, why have a huge chunk of their money tied up in LFCā¦ Sell some off and have money to reinvest elsewhere, yet remain onboard in the interim
Thatās not Ryan Reynolds
Whatever this is
All the FSG out moaners and wingers now finding some morals about owners? Show some class.
Everyone said be careful what you wish for.
