Which is why sports washers do what they do.

As someone who knows two billionaires (albeit one only in AuD), one for ~20 years - Iâd say that there can be a world of difference between how (un)ethically they achieved their wealth. Murderous oil sheikhs simply arenât in the same moral universe as a fortuitously successful tech entrepreneur or a commerical property developer - or even a natural resources tycoon. Moral equivalence can be fraught, but it is one massive mistake of the 21 century to forget that tarring all politicians (or billionaires) with the same brush only ends up excusing the worst behaviours of the absolute worst of them with the âthey all do itâ cop out.
Agreed. My daughter is a billionaire (zimbabwe dollars) and sheâs alright.
100% agree, Limie. Only seen this post after Iâd already responded to @gasband
See Qatar has owned Harrods since 2010
"From Wardâs perspective, the key thing to stress is that this is his decision, and not one that was taken lightly.
He understands that the timing will inevitably lead to speculation, but there has been no fallout, no rows over transfers or budgets and no head-turning job offers from elsewhere.
He leaves on his own terms, with no hard feelings or regrets, and he will continue to give everything between now and the end of the campaign.
Klopp, GOAL has been told, was among those who tried to convince Ward to stay, and it will be interesting now to see how Liverpool move forward, and specifically whether the manager will assume even greater responsibility in terms of the clubâs recruitment and retention strategy."
And?
Nothing really just you stated Mohamed Al Fayed owns them
More that you have a shite taste in cars âŚ
If you think there is no difference between Labour and the Tories, you do need help, and weâre staging an intervention.
throw a little instability in here and it all goes to shit⌠seriously people are we a bunch of Chicken Littleâs in here? itâs a football clubâŚ
City have gone a step further by acquiring sponsors that are highly questionable and overinflated. They are getting legend level sponsorship for a club within 10 years while other clubs have been been at this for decades and are being out sponsored. (Liverpool, Barca, RM, MU, Etc). The fault lies entirely with the FA, the government should have nothing to do with this, or if they wanted to have an indirect influence then they should investigate the FA with a microscope and make it be known. If state owned clubs could not âcookâ the books, would they want to own? You need to win to sports wash, you need questionable funds to do it quickly (sports washers donât want result 10 years from now, they want it next year).
One of the things I love about Klopp is the way he keeps praising his coaching team etc. None of our success would have been possible without them.
There is a legitimate debate to be had as to whether or not, or to what degree, we would accept ownership from private individuals in a nation we do not like or approve of.
So for example, we now have FSG. That is of course not the same as being owned by the American government. But let us say that the American government has done some/many objectionable/immoral acts around the globe (donât want to derail my general post getting into the details of that basic point, but letâs agree to take it as a given).
We are happy to accept individual Americans as owners and not conflate that with being owned by the American government. So far so good.
NowâŚ
Disclaimer: I am NOT saying I want this, but let us imagine that private Saudi investors wanted to buy Liverpool.
If they are rich, I would imagine they would be friends with at least some people in the ruling class, much like American billionaires probably know a Senator or two.
But the line is there. The money is not government money, and the individual is not a representative of government. They are a private citizen.
Letâs say they have money to burn, and letâs even go further and say they like their football and are fans of the Premier League.
So the question:
To what degree is that set of circumstances acceptable or unacceptable, with prospective new owners?
For me there is a big difference between state owned and others. I mentioned this when RA was getting so much flack while it seemed that the actual state owned clubs were getting a free pass. Sort of like saying that RA was directly responsible for the invasion.
