All I was doing was to look at the major first team in & outs. There is a pattern forming up. If a big purchase is coming, someone big is going off as our operating profit can only do a partial offset of the transfer.
I dont think we practice taking or defending corners.
ā¦ or passing, pressing, scoring ā¦ or much else by the looks of things. Must be too tired!
Iām sure your witty and postive posts will help get us through the summer!
We had money, we spent it on another left forward instead of a midfielder.
Not last summer.
Klopp refused to buy a midfielder, do we need to go back over this? There are direct quotes from him being pretty prickly about the whole situation.
Fair to say midfield needs investment but we actually need to buy midfielders with the money available. Weāve spent Ā£120m on Darwin on Gakpo in theblast 6 months (I like both of them and like their signings) but lets no pretend there was Ā£0 there. We chose to invest elsewhere.
FSG donāt tell Klopp who he can and canāt buy - thats a dicussion between the directors, scouting and management staff.
An investor willing to put in that much would be a significant stakeholder and would be given assurances on how that money is spent. That would be backed up by the legal contracts covering the investment.
There is no reason to assume that money (or the majority of it) would not then be made available for investing into the playing squad.
This upcoming summer was the one the club were going to target for rebuilding the midfield, so they will have been planning and budgeting for it.
Well technically it was last summer but for a reason I will never understand why we went from Tchouameni to no-oneā¦
Because sometime our recruitment tries to be a bit too clever.
Last summer the focus was on the forward line. Tchouameni was an opportunistic target. It very much sounds like the club were setting up midfield moves for the 2023 summer window and then sought at the last minute to see if they could bring them forward.
As I said, still canāt understand why!! That was the start of this season, going again with the same midfield.
You actually believe that
This is where it all gets really weird.
All summer Klopp bit the head off anyone suggesting we needed a midfielder. He was incredibly defensive about his squad, and especially about his midfielders.
But because that has proved to be a mistake (which Klopp himself fronted up) weāre now doing mental gymnastics to try and make that not Kloppās fault, because we love him, and pin the blame on a much more comfortable corporate scapegoat.
Itās easier to make it binary even though itās been a collective fck up.
Well it does get annoying when you asked the same question every interview and knowing how tight funds are, so for me he used this to shut them up. Its funny how some of us believe certain rumours and completely ignore others. I believe the one about Klopp wanting to sign Nunes but we were too slow off the mark and wolves got him. Theres a couple more like this one also.
Signing CG when Jota and Bobby were due back not long after and a glaring hole in performance in the midfield not being repaired is squarely at Kloppās feet. Yes we try to be smart in the markets and sign good players at good prices. But occasionally you buy a pint of milk from the local shop because you need it and pay extra for the convinience.
No CG, FSG weāre looking at you. But that money was better spent right now on a player who isnāt made of glass / playing like a me with a hangover. I donāt believe for a second that Klopp doesnāt have the final say on transfers.
I think the historical mental gymnastics were around Kloppās seeming reticence to sign expensive players, preferring to build a team. I think heās put that one to bed now. Give him a billion and Iām sure heād spend it.
But we love him, always will (unless he does something stupid) Itās like your wife scratching your fave pan by cutting a steak IN IT WITH YOUR SHARPEST KNIFE. You hate her for it but itās not grounds for divorce. Well, it nearly wasā¦ā¦
Funds arenāt tight. Klopp has spent Ā£180mil on forwards in the last 2 years. He could have spent any of that on midfielders. He could have not stepped in and got Hendo a contract extension way beyond what Edwards and the data guys were telling him was reasonable.
As Mascot says, ignoring the fact Klopp is a huge part of the problem doesnāt mean you donāt think heās the man to bring the solution.
