I think what weâll see will include mandatory seats on boards for appointed fan representatives and perhaps more tools for the local community as we saw with the Localism Act 2011. The government wonât go near the 50+1 concept.
Donât ask me. Itâs probably unattainable as long as the clubsâ values are so high.
On the other hand, a strong and decided government could rule that the owners have to sell a part of their stakes to the fans for the value they payed for. Say, fsg bought LFC for 300 millions I think? 51% would be around 150m. 33% would be 100 millions. Itâs still an awful lot of money admittedly.
Another way would be that the the owners keep everything they own, but the fans have a non-financial stake in the club, ie. a voting right on key matters. Anyone holding a member card votes on key issues, like the one weâve talked about these last days.
My feeling is that a solution could be found and could be implemented, but nothing will happen because there is absolutely no intent to do so in this country.
What if they proposed 20 best teams based on last 10 years European coefficient qualifies for ESL? Bottom 2/3 teams of ESL season drops off making way for another 2/3 teams based on last 10 years European coefficient.
It would have guaranteed the top 10-12 teams top football for almost eternity.
Would this be where owners are heavily encouraged to do whats right but theyâd still hold a final say in business matters,as it is their business,or could fan board members actually stop them from implementing things like price increases on merchandising, tickets etc.How much pwer would be transferred to the fans reps on the board?
No idea but itâs possible the government could legislate for that fan representative to have power of veto in certain limited circumstances and perhaps the government could legislate to impose a cap on % ticket price increases linked to CPI for example?
Yeah but Barca and Real Madrid donât either, I think they had the ability to wait and see how it turned out, Iâm not going be angry at them doing so, they used some knowledge ours didnât.
They already had the positive experience of renovating Fenway Park for the Red Sox. They were always predisposed to stay at Anfield if possible instead of moving. Developing Kirkby was a no brainer as well. They couldnât get these two wrong even if they wanted to.
I agree that they are always pushing for improvements and some bad ideas will come up in the process. The issue is that the bad ideas are put to practice too often.
SoS have berated them repeatedly through their tenure. At times so belligerently they have been forced to change course when they probably didnt think theyâd done anything wrong just because they were creating such bad PR that they needed to make it go away. I wonder whether there isnt a sense of saying âfuck itâ to some decisions with the expectations that theyâre going to get roasted by a portion of the fan base regardless?
But Im also stunned at the overall lack of preparation and inability to get out in front of this. It seems almost as if someone opened their mouth when they shouldnt have and the ESL clubs were then never able to respond quickly enough to how badly the story was getting away from them.
As for the exclusivity it was my major issue, I was also concerned about how it would pay over time.
Also there wasnât much guarantee that if the owner decided to sell up that he couldnât then remove us further down the line unlikely but Perez sold it as the best teams playing the best football.
As for shorter games and the idea of fans and how it kind of seemed obvious that it was going include home games in America or AsiaâŚ
Actually in fact the only benefit was it looked like the club might be a bit richer and always in âEuropeâ and UEFA wouldnât run it (not that those who would were any better and some in the case of Juve boss were the same).
Just because they have experience that fed their good decisions doesnt eliminate the credit for making the good decision. What Henry was savvy about was understanding the similarity between Boston and Liverpool and likewise the Red Sox and LFC.
I donât think it leaked unintentionally. I think someone within the 12 wanted it out there before UEFA set out their proposals. There seemed to be a deadline on rushing City and Chelsea to commit by the weekend with extended periods for Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and PSG to do likewise.
It looks like a rush to get the 6 from the PL together in time to disclose their plans before UEFA. The timingâs got the fingerprints of Agnelli and Perez all over it. Maybe the Glazers as well. FSG are normally much more considered, probably explains why they didnât have a ready-made statement to go for the club website and had to make do with one from Unitedâs owners
Redeveloping Anfield and theyâve done a bloody good job is still a massive kudos for me, the more it seems here is John is solely focused on TV rights, none of the clubs were particularly happy with these rebates asked by Sky and BT and I expected a massive change in how broadcasting was done next time out.
A lot of project big picture was decent also, I do wonder if the money blinded him to the reality. Your legacy fan creates atmosphere they still account for your sales through merchandise the club matters to them beyond minutes after final whistle, I would say that main stand has improved us as well the players feed off it.
Anyhow the term enemies enemy is not my friend and that goes for this league and those now proclaiming victory, if truth be told the players probably were more than a factor in all this.
its a cluster fuck to be honest⌠absolutely nothing to celebrate here⌠the game has been saved is all bullshit really⌠the major winners here are the very organisations that are fucking it up and thats fifa, uefa, and PL⌠uefa will now consolidate its power and so will the PLâŚthis thing has been about money and how the current model is not sustainable for clubs like lfc. When this whole thing started, chelsea and man city were jus along for the ride and thats why they were the first to pull out as financially they are the least impacted⌠folks celebrating this rubbish now should not be complaining when sky/bt increase their fees and uefa and fifa increase unnecessary games. No one should complain about FSG not spending enough neither
I think all this ESL stuff came out to purposely make it known that the top teams around europe want a say and a larger cut of tv revenues, with the extra games and reform of the CL that UEFA are imposing on the clubs.
Lets be honest here,UEFA are just as greedy and far more dodgy as the owners of these teams ready to split away,i just think they were positioning themselves to counter what UEFA are going to be doing in the next couple of years, although admittedly theyve gone about it in the wrong way.
As for FSG and John Henry, atleast he had the balls to put his face on tv and admit to being wrong,he is a businessman at the end of the day and probably taken in by the likes of Perez who should know better, being around the european game alot longer.
If I were FSG Iâd support fan representation but block Spirit of Shankly. They wouldnât work constructively, would have zero ability to compromise and be realistic, and have a history for knee-jerk hysteria.
