Years ago I was talking to an Indian woman who became really enamored by the fact I knew that Brimful of Asha was a reference to her. Her gushing reaction made me realize what I knew was just a piece of trivia and there was so much more to understand about the woman and why a british indian kid in the 90s would write such an uplifting song about her. She sent me away with some homework and it was a hell of an experience.
Moya Brennan, lead singer of Clannad has died.
I used to have a tape of Clannad that I played in the car to reduce stress when driving. This was probably their best known track:

This is such a lovely farewell message, i had to leave it here.
Today, my heart is heavy.
We lost an incredible person far too soon. A teammate, a friend, and above all, a truly exceptional human being. We shared the pitch together, but more importantly, we shared moments that I will carry with me forever.
He was one of the kindest and most professional person I have ever met. Always there for others, always giving his best â not just in football, but in life. Someone you could trust, respect, and learn from every single day.
The world has lost an amazing father, a loyal friend, and a person who made everyone around him better.
My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
Rest in peace, my friend. You will never be forgotten. ![]()

Sad to hear he seems a well liked bloke.
I met Tony some years ago when I was supplying products for the training complex. I remember him as a really nice guyâŚ
Vale, the best writer to come out of Australia - his best writing hasnât been surpassed by any other Australian.
Ooof, that makes me feel old.
I dont know how well the take stands up today, but back in the early days after the success of the Human Genome Project he was heralded as a critical factor in its completion even if never an official partner in it. The days of Clintonian Neoliberalism venerating private enterprise (using things paid for by the public and then privatizing their commercialization) maybe created a different perspective on his role than weâd get today
Star of my favourite series. Will be missed..
Just realised this during the F1 Sprint pre-race.

It was just announced the Ted Turner just passed.
It was probably from watching last nightâs episode of CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip and despairing at what his baby had become

I remember his TNT channel being my introduction to âliveâ US baseball (Atlanta Braves!!) which I didnât realise initially was his team.
I think that channel was also my introduction to Longmire. And later endless repeats of Westerns.
