The R.I.P. thread

He was an excellent performer. I was late to the party, born in '91, but my mother was an old punk (still is - she just got even older, as one does) and she’d play I’m Stranded and Eternally Yours often. We went to see them around 2006 in Amsterdam. Really fun night.

Nick Cave watching The Saints in '77. Apparently their first gig in Melbourne, at The Tiger Room.

Last time I was home in 2012 I met up with a London based mates brother whilst I was on the Goldie, and we made a pilgrimage to the old house/shop that Chris and guitarist Ed Kuepper squatted back in the 70’s, the same place they would eventually form The Saints and go on to name Club '76, site of some early infamous gigs and rehearsals. Strange to think that directly across the road was the old police barracks, literally four lanes of traffic away. In a politically charged city like Brisbane was back then, where we had a fascist, corrupt premier in charge of the state, and the police force was one of the most rotten in the whole world and little more than SS stormtroopers with Aussie accents, it’s crazy to think that a group like The Saints were getting their shit together right under their noses within gobbing distance. I know a few people that have met Chris and asked him about this and he told would say they surprisingly had very little trouble from them, something he could never figure out.

That place was up for rent a couple of years back - just before Covid hit. Not sure if it ever got snapped up by anyone but would make a great set up for a punkmusic based cafe or gallery linking it’s history with them

Sadly, one of our own passed away last night after falling ill pre-match at Anfield. If I were to go suddenly, Anfield would be a pretty special place for it to happen.

I’m confused. In the Twitter thread somebody said he died, then there was a tweet from him but now he’s dead again, for real. Even death is complicated for him. Must have been haggling the details about his final transfer, upstairs or down.

The original deal broke down earlier in the week after Death baulked at the last minute agent fees that were introduced, but they came back to the table and finally made a deal that worked for all sides.

Hope he figured out a way to take his money with him.

Did well for his clients, and for himself.

I’m just curious that someone would tweet he had died, he’d come out to say he was still alive then die the next day? What sort of illness puts you in a place where you are doing that? And what sort of person wants to spend their last hours doing that?

Did he do well for his clients? He certainly did well for himself. If his clients happened to do well as a side-effect, nice enough, but many didn’t. Love to his family and friends, etc., but football is no worse off.
