Regarding the Sala comments above, I love about 15 miles from Cardiff and I k ow that the club were brilliant in the whole tragedy in supporting Sala family.
I’m not sure at what stage the transfer was at but you can see it from both clubs POV.
15m to Cardiff and Nantes probably sets them up for the next 2 years so it was inevitable that they were going to squabble of the fee.
I’m not 100% sure but I think I read somewhere after the accident that Cardiff were saying he might have signed some paperwork but they hadn’t received his full registration papers from Nantes to become a Cardiff player,before the plane crashed or something along those lines.
No idea where to place this…not quite World Cup Qualifying. So I just dump the article in here.

Not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere but how can someone found guilty of blackmail not get a jail sentence?
and still be picked for his club and national team? You wouldn’t have thought he was short a bob or two so why do it?

The case is a strange one. At a high level there isnt too much a difference in how he respnded that I’d hope a mate of mine who was made aware of the situation would respond. There is also a much less well known element of the story in that the blackmailers initially went to Djibril to play this role, and again there isnt much of a difference between their responses. There must be something there for the Djibril part of the story to be treated as irrelevent and Benzema to be charged and ultimately convicted, but I assume its in that gray area where things are implied rather than stated. Cisse is alleged to have gone to Valbuena and unambiguously recommended he go to the authorities. Benzema’s crime is seemingly suggesting the best approach was to just pay them off. Seemingly that has been interpreted as a favour to a mate involved in the scheme, but it is also the stock reaction of super rich ahtletes dealing with annoying PR regarding women, sex and babies.
I thought was suspicion that Benzema had links to the blackmailers so his friendly “advice” was actually part of the blackmailing plan.

Yes, that’s the idea. I understand how it can be perceived like that, but it is also the exact response I would expect from a man with Benzema’s bank balance to dealing with an issue like this. To get a conviction there must be more there, but the reporting of it leaves a lot of holes.
