But other than that it’s pretty sparse. Though of course I know of several.
Obviously it is a person’s own business as to whether they choose to come out, but do you have any insight into why the ones in football that you know of prefer to stay in the closet?
I could be way wide of the mark as a heterosexual man, but I honestly thought the whole issue was much further along these days? In other words, if someone came out, they would receive support and respect for doing so? That’s the impression I have. Of course, there might be some idiots who would attempt to have a go, but I would imagine they would quickly be shouted down by the vast majority of people who want to live and let live.
I could be way too optimistic in my assessment, but if you have any insight as to why the ones you know of are keeping it on the down low, I’d be interested to hear. Thanks.

From what I know and this is really only one conversation it is the crowds, more away than home also he felt he would be put on a pedestal.
There are relationships within clubs. It will probably come out as a group one day but yeah it’s still the unsavoury aspects according to them. Though that fanbase of the individual aren’t one I’d say was a massively bad one.
That was 2007 as well for my Uni mag, we never put it out which is a shame but more due to the fact the lad didn’t want it out there.

We often like to think that talent is so undeniable that all it takes is to be good enough for your face to fit, but pros know it is anything but that. Everyone will have experienced a player’s status in the club changing dramatically overnight with the introduction of a new manager, and often for reasons that aren’t all that clear why. No matter how much faith a gay player has in their current team mates and coaching staff, they know situations in football are very fluid and are aware that sooner or later there will be a new guy and he may well be a total fucking dinosaur.
