The Referees or The Twelfth Man

Effectively they seem to allocate time for VAR and subs and any injuries then the rest well whatever.

Think it was the Man U - Crystal Palace game earlier in the week? 6 minutes of added time at the end, during which a player was booked for time wasting, yet the ref still blew at 6 minutes instead of adding on some more time. That’s insult to injury. The ref acknowledged there was time wasting, and then helped by wasting more of it with a booking. :person_shrugging:

It’s interesting as I have noticed in the Championship they do seem to take subs and stuff like that into account.

We’ll inevitably have our old nemesis as a ref tomorrow Oliver, guaranteed we will get a man sent off, they will get at least one dodgy penalty and he will allow the shitty players to kick us with impunity and vAR will cancel our scored goals for either a forensic offside or a flimsy handball.

Not exactly how it panned out though. He took pity on us..no added minutes thank goodness…

Guardiola, Arteta and their players are hard work to referee. This is what it feels like to be in the thick of it

What an entrance though…

Quite a few new rule enforcements at the World Cup.
Major one for me are the fucking tag team wrestling displays during corners where basically no-one is even looking at the ball.
About time something was done to eradicate this from the game.

Officials will also now be allowed to step in if a foul is committed before the ball is in play at a set-piece, such as an attacker blocking a defender before a corner is taken.

I wasn’t entirely sure what the penalty for this is. A yellow card, or a free kick to the defending team? Or both?

But will still be ok to wrestle Virg to the ground in a Liverpool shirt on attackin corners

Nothing really. Violent conduct can be penalized even when the ball isnt in play, but if we’re just talking about run of the mill fouls then punishment is applied only if a goal is scored with it being disallowed and the corner/free kick made to be taken again.

Note refs can already deal with this before the ball is kicked. The real difference here is VAR can intervene to tell the ref to disallow a goal because of shit that went on before the ball was kicked. Critically, it cannot do this for defenders. So again we’ve ended up with implementation that treats the same incident differently depending on if you are an attacker or defender.

Bollocks
How can the game be refereed if only one side is subject to rules in particular instances.

“Any attacking fouls that happen before play is started. Previously, no foul would be allowed until the ball is live, but now VAR can step in to suggest disciplinary action when a restart has resulted in a goal, penalty, corner or free kick.”

Don’t ask me or any sane footy fan!

If a defender is fouling, surely VAR should instuct a retake of the kick?
Makes no sense to me.
