Other than the old school headmaster ones like Keith Hackett who take it all very seriously (who is a dinosaur who actively refuses to keep up with the changes in the rules in the 20 years since he stopped refereeing) they are all like that. Clattenburg every time he speaks he is some combination of David Brent and accidental partridge (British sitcom references for something that is incredibly cringe inducing for those who dont get them) who says things that he thinks make him look interesting but are incredibly embarrassing for him.
And the really bizarre thing about Dean is that this is maybe the 5th time he’s come out with something like this that should massively erode the faith in the refs. His public standing is far closer to the Secret Footballer style expose into the dirty secrets of the game yet he continues to be used a voice of expertise by the media.

I think the other big one with Dean was his comments on the hair pull in the Spurs-Chelsea game a few years ago. He was on VAR and later admitted that he thought it was a red, but it was obvious that it would be embarrassing to the ref to have been told he missed it so decided to pretend he agreed with the decision to ignore it out of solidarity
Sky would be better served with a referee on the screen that actually took the Howie webb cartel to task, and ripped them to shreds… Lot of these ex-players and ex-referees are making a lot of money from the game, the least they could do, is contribute that football; for the fans; stays within the tracks for future generations of these fans…
It would be entertaining, if nothing else. A top ref from another association would at least offer an alternative perspective. Pierluigi Collina, maybe?
Even someone singing off the PGMOL hymn sheet would be an improvement if they actually said something with substance. Far too often its circular nothingness.
That was a red card because that meets the definition of excessive force. What exactly is excessive force? Whatever we say. Why is this very very very similar one from last week not a red? Well because we said then it wasnt excessive force.

Contentious decisions and incidents crop up on a weekly basis.
These are often explained away as mistakes or incompetence when corruption is suggested.
These cunts are more corrupt than Westminster.
I actually feel vindicated now. It was clear as day to me for some time and a few of us here were quite vocal about it. I won’t go into the exact incidents again and bore everyone but it materially affected at least two of the seasons under Jurgen when we came second by one point.
I don’t see it as mistakes, incompetence or corruption at all. I see it more as “indifference”.
Its almost like its a carryover of when they likely started their reffing careers in the little leagues: “Oh lets throw that chubby kid a bone because he needs it. I’ll give him that free kick.” “Double footed studs up slide tackle making contact with a planted foot? Oh, its the only girl on the team. I’ll let her off with a warning”
Making decisions on ‘feels’ is the one trend that shines through when we have the Clattenburgs of this world telling us he went out of his way to balance up early poor decisions by giving frees against the benefited team, or Dean telling us he is playing mind games with himself and not even remotely bothered to focus on the match.
There is an utter lack of respect of the game, and a general ‘who-gives-a-fuck?’ attitude to a multibillion dollar industry. They are making it all up as they go because (1) they don’t really take it seriously and (2) there have never been any consequences for reffing on feels. Case in point is Dean’s comments inexplicably being laughed off. This is the sole reason the next generation of refs will be exactly the same.
Has anyone ever had a kid that played football? You’d probably recall a young teen reffing, having a stinker and you’d just have a smile on your face the whole game thinking ‘WTF are you doing?’ Well thats what the general public are doing with this information. ‘What are you doing?’ Smile. Move on.
Maybe all this falls into the Incompetence category, but I’d strongly argue that maybe there is the skill there to referee but we can see that they aren’t even slightly bothered to use it.
My favourite Clattenburg story was talking about the pressures of giving a decision against a team you’ve already given a big decision against. He says that in his mind he is thinking about the criticism he’s going to get afterwards, and knows it will be horrible if he gives both against the team and both turn out to be wrong. As you listen to it you are thinking that he’s setting up the story to talk about the natural instincts, but that to be a top ref you have to ignore them to give the decision you think is right. But no, he then just openly admits that he consciously evens stuff up so when he gets criticized the next day he can point to even handedness in the outcome, and does so without any consideration of what the decisions should have been.
This is a story about someone who is a truly terrible referee and he doesnt understand that the story he is telling is not the one he thinks it is.
I suspect a few of these guys would say, “next goal wins” if they could get away with it.

Corrupt to the fucking core
On both occasions we lost out on the title to those cunts by 1 point there was enough clear corruption in their favour, mainly in decisions going against us.
Going back to 2013/14, pre-VAR of course, we were fucked over in the 2 Christmas games against City and Chelsea.
Even in 23/24 when we fell away right at the end we’d been getting fucked over all season, if we’d had the extra 6 or 7 points we should have had going into the final few weeks I doubt we’d have blown it, our mentality was shot at that point and the incentive was still there for City to keep going.
It’s no exaggeration to say we may have been cheated out of 4 titles.
Is that the game at Anfield when it was icy? That cunt Atkinson was the ref. You’re right, Maguire should have been off and he turned down a blatant pen on Keita late on.
Even the equaliser was dodgy as fuck. Robbo gave away a FK out wide in injury time at the end of the 1st half and we cleared the ball out of the box. Every similar incident I’ve ever seen the ref blows up as soon as the ball goes out of the box but that cunt let them carry on, ball got played back in and slabhead scored.
It’s all coming out in dribs and drabs just like many of us said it would. This is all the thin end of the wedge. These corrupt cunts will have been laughing at us for years when they get together for a little jolly.
