The Referees or The Twelfth Man

That piece is full of bad arguments. The fuck up on the pickford foul was over the failure to give a red card. That is a bad fuck up, but it could not be a penalty because virgil was offside. This guy is using the failure to give a penalty to draw comparisons with other dubious decisions.

There is enough there to have no faith Oliver is on the level when it comes to us, but arguments like this undermine that

Yeah you are right… but what I saw is an LFC supporter getting a bit riled up enough to do a lot of heavy lifting with regards gathering evidence… with a lot more digging for facts by many others around the country, it will be inevitable for the tsunami of corruption to continue to surface within the flotsam and jetsam that is lapping at the door of the Cheaters…

Yeah I get you. If you’re interested in persuasion though you cannot give people easy exit ramps. It’s common for people to think that the more examples you add to your argument the stronger the overall argument becomes, but it tends to go the opposite way. Any flaw in any single claim will undercut the faith the listener has in the argument as a whole. The more issues you put in an argument the more likely you are to say something that doesnt hold up, like his virgil vs forest comparison, and the rest of your argument is then diminished. Simply forgetting to consider that Pickford’s was a red card is enough by itself to include in your scrapbook of dodgy decisions.

Absolutely right, but the more evidence that is gathered for consideration, by Joe Public or skilled orators, the more that can be included, or discarded, when it comes to subject choice selection for final arguments…
Load a skilful lawyer up with a sackful of useful data, then between them with their sharp legal mind and their minions, a solid base case can take shape that has scanned most possibilities… In short, to me, it’s good to see so many fans taking offence at the Cheaters, because for all we know at the moment, we have all been hoodwinked and taken for absolute fools within the biggest con football has ever seen :+1:

No, Limie is right. He was making a really good case until he started being more refs and more dubious decisions into it - I’m a Liverpool fan, and I ended up turning it off course he was all over the place. He would have been better just sticking to Michael Oliver.

Uh, what?

It does seem a bit peculiar. It’s almost as if the old boys club looks after itself.

I was chatting about this exact issue with another parent at pick up yesterday.

In relation to the refs, is the standard of football in non league/amateur and league 1 and league 2, higher? in the northern areas? Or do refs from the North/North West get chosen for higher profile fixtures in the in the lower levels due to southern sides getting to more finals?

These officials then get noticed more?

I don’t know the answer. I am just wondering.

How many quit the role due to violence and abuse? is it higher in the south/south east? How many take up the role in the first place?

Interesting article. Why are so few Premier League referees from London and south-east England?

If you are protecting information that is damaging, you keep the group small and made up of people you know and trust. Bringing in outsiders risks exposure.

Webb and his cronies have stood over dubious decisions for years. Not just "poor judgement " or human error decisions, but biased and or corrupt moments that have changed the course of seasons.

@jaffod has catalogued a number of these way better than I can. And if you momentarily suspend the red tinted view of Paul Tompkins and explore his evidence, then you will understand the amount of information that these lads need to keep in house.

Howard Webb took a sabbatical from South Yorkshire Police to focus on his refereeing career. The history of that institution with Liverpool will always raise suspicions as to whether the club would get equitable treatment from his current organisation.

A few of us on TIA and on TAN have sounded like broken records for years. I often stopped short at corruption, citing bias that is fuelled by external forces that mitigate against us getting fairness.

Fergie demonised Suarez. They listened to him. Suarez didn’t help himself, but refs gave him no chance. Also look at the treatment Salah got, compared to Kane or Grealish etc. And look back at @jaffods posts to see the picture.

One day, they will be exposed. Just like City. And football will wring its hands and clutch pearls.

I’m still curious about who released that Coote video and why. They had clearly been sitting on kompramat for a while.

He made a mistake, mouthing in public.
His crew didn’t circle the wagons for him either.

One has to have a balanced view, though.

Look at every decision in every game and every thing that goes for and against each club. Thinking officials are just against one club, for me is bonkers.
Surely Coote would have to be protected ot the hilt, seeing as he has already proven to be talkative? He’d be a major risk to any hidden secrets of the refs.

I do think there is some bias in refereeing/officiating with certain officials. I don’t like Brooks.

Part of the reason I stopped watching the Premier League (aside from us) was because of bizarre decisions given against Everton and Manchester United, so it is far from one club, or one fan’s biased perspective.

I watch a fair bit of Bundesliga, and you don’t get this crap in every single game. When I have seen EFL matches you don’t get it. That’s not to say that mistakes don’t happen, or that fans feel hard done by, but you can sit down and enjoy match without it looking like a betting scam.

I’d say that most other leagues don’t come under the same scrutiny of every decision. My mate who lives in Paris but is a Porto supporter (parents are portugese) tells me an awful lot about crazy decisions in European mainland leagues. Shows me a lot of stuff non english from reddit football subreddits. We also took to watching a fair bit of spurs in last few season as their games tend to get a lot of goals. Some mad decisions happen in those.

Are you suggesting that my view isn’t balanced, because you dont agree with it? People on my school of thought are bonkers?

I was called a tin foil hat merchant by Epsom Red, so the denigration of my views isn’t new.
Without entering into the same level of debate that Epsom and I engaged in…one day you will read reports on Webb and Co and say ā€œthose guys on TIA were correctā€

No, I think one concentrating on decisions involving one league or one club is not balanced and feels bonkers to me. It doesn’t mean you are bonkers or imbalanced.

Ok.
I was worried about myself for a minute.

I’m not unbalanced, I just engage in unbalanced beliefs.
Phew…

Don’t worry. I am still of the belief Daniel Sturridge will regain fitness.

@Quicksand @RedWhippet

Most if not all fan bases of all clubs in the premier league have thoughts and threads about corruption, do you think if all those threads were combined and a discussed between all relevant ā€˜believers’ ( i want a better word.. its not meant to be disparaging) of all clubs, that there would be a unilateral agreement of everything each other thinks is corrupt? or would few agree on things that were in favour of their own club?

genuine question.
