The Room 101 thread

You “can” program your home router to allow access then set it as your proxy server. Ahem…… Was the only way to listen to TMS once upon a time on holiday.

Slightly off topic, but I think it’s unbelievable that in the 2020s there isn’t access to almost all movies from pre-2000 for free or a low rental cost (like 50p per view) via a legal method.

Sounds like I might be googling some how tos before my next trip out of the country.

NordVPN is what I use. they have a function called obfuscated servers which will pretty much fool any region-locking if you can figure out how to unlock it. have the app on my phone, tablet and on my PC.

People who reply to texts or social media posts who start with er or erm. FFS it’s something used in speech to give yourself a second or two to think about what you’re saying. There’s just no need for it in the written word.

Also politicians who start a reply to a question by saying “look”. It sounds so condescending, like they’re saying “sit there while I tell you why you’re wrong”. Especially if it’s deli ered with a smug grin. :rage::nerd_face:

I’ll add starting any sentence with:

Essentially
To be honest
No offence but

The word like in general when used by anybody under the age of 40.

To add to the previous two posts, starting an answer with “So…” is completely unnecessary and saying “I’m not gonna lie…” would suggest that the person usually does tell porkies but is not going to do so on this occasion.

errr, look, you know what I mean, I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t drunk or going over the speed limit when the police started chasing me. They forced me to go faster and drink very heavily in those 2 minutes.

I propose “listen” as worse than them all.

“Listen, the lads gave everything today. I mean, listen, these really are a great bunch.”

I am fucking listening and if I wasn’t then I wouldn’t hear you telling me to.

Nah, great intro for a song. Might make you miserable if you live in France but there you go.

In Ireland every GAA player being interviewed seem compelled to say ‘I suppose’ about fifteen times a minute…
’ well Marty, I suppose we gave it our all, I suppose they were stronger and I suppose they were favourites going in"

Its fucking stupid.

I dislike the term ‘mid’

Firstly because it just sounds a bit lame. ‘Bang average’ or mediocre have a lot more oomph to them.

Secondly because it seems to be used far more often when people think something is actually pretty shit, but instead of saying that, they will say mid, implying that something is actually just okay.

Hot air hand driers that are too high up the wall. You have to raisebyour hands to them and the moisture gets blown down on to your wrists and forearms. I much prefer the Airblade ones that you dip your hands into.

Staff in hospitality who ask is everything was OK? Depends how drunk or hungover I am as to how I answer. Usually a variation on “No, you don’t want it to be OK…….” Several places have offered me a job on this point.

So basically I’ve learned that I’ve been doing this, like, really wrong all this time.*

*Erm, I mean the speaking/writing thing. Didn’t quote what I was responding to. Ironically.

You sure you can reach into the airblade ones?

My kids are normally not tall enough and if there isn’t a stepping stool (which there normally isn’t) they need to be picked up.
