The Rugby Union Thread

‘Interesting’? We got absolutely battered. Scoreline flattered us. Was a bit like the PSG game minus Alisson!

No chance of that happening. France will be deserved winners. Their PD is a joke

Sense prevails here…

It might need the cash but you want to kill a sport then lock it behind a pay screen.

This is brutal :see_no_evil:

I’m feeling kind of lost after that. England far far better but talk about not getting any luck or bounce of the ball.

Other thoughts
I think Anscombe is done as an international 10,
I’m not a huge fan of Tomos Williams either.

More to follow no doubt.

In retrospect, this was the high point of the game.

Scotland are looking great right now

France Scotland game was fantastic. I enjoyed that one.

I know most on here don’t seemt o follow the game at club level but it’s the champions cup knockout fixtures this weekend, saints Vs Clermont on now. Been a good opening 20 mins

Should be good. I certainly try to follow the Welsh regions as best I can. The rest is on Sky, and I aint doing that.

I just object to pay to see sport on TV.

One of the benefits of living above a pub, don’t need to pay for any of the sports subscriptions

Leagues on sky, union is on tnt, premier sports, and discovery plus. Was a ballache getting it on one of the pub tellies not even knowing where to watch it, before the rigamarole of sorting the stream out. Something union needs to look at at club level is the accessibility of it via TV. Going to games is still really well priced, but it ain’t easy following from afar when unable to get to the ground

I’ve been trying to catch up on the mess in Cardiff. Beginning to think the whole regional structure in Wales was built on quicksand.

Not just Wales, although their clubs are in a poor place atm (and the national team). Fair few English clubs gone bust in recent years, the RFU has started offering supplementary contracts to players to avoid hemorrhaging players to the french league, and if memory serves last season all clubs in the premiership were run at a loss, the Saffas joined the URC over a monetary dispute, and the Aussies/kiwis have be having monetary disputes with their RFUs as well and before this season we’re struggling with diminishing attendances (on the up this year though).

It is worrying how much, outside of France and Ireland, money struggles are so prevalent. Wales in particular atm seems to be a bit of a shit show, though that is not being helped by the rugby being offered up at both club and international level.

Yeah a mess. Worth noting the Irish Rugby Unions poor finance figures this last year, so they are struggling a bit too.

Some of the Welsh struugles can be laid at the decision to cut development pathways in 2016 but that doesnt address the money issue.

The WRU is £100-120m per year business (revenue) yet the regions see less than £5m each. I’m struggling to find where the union spends that money. It’s incredibly difficult to fully understand what all the issues actually are and therefore understand solutions.

I’ve heard that merging Dragons and Cardiff could be a way forward. Honestly, I’m not convinced. At best roughly 3 Dragons players make the combined squad. The rest go where? Plus losing that whole eastern channel is risky imo. Bristol is not far. Finacially it feels like small beer too.
