Even without all the injuries, it would’ve been a tall mountain to climb. Swiatek and Sabalenka are basically this generation’s Williams sisters. Although not as dominant - far too much for the rest. Not sure she’s even much of an outsider to pick up another GS.

Be interesting to see how far Draper can go coming back of the injury and another 5 set win.

Edit: Half expected that result, hopefully not another that spends most of his career being treated.

Even if Raducanu never wins another match she can retire having achieved more than most people in that sport ever will.

I said that at the time, can’t think of anyone amazing who didn’t win a Slam but Henman and that level would have loved one.

Seems more prevelant in other sports probably due to the various different court systems

Has anyone seen the story about the end to the Belgium-Chile Davis Cup match?

The Belgian broke serve leaving him serving for the set that would win the match and the tie. He excitedly ran to center court to change ends and ran into the Chilean as they were crossing over. It was a trivial bump, but the lad threw himself to the ground holding his face like he was a prime Rivaldo. The Dr cleared him to play on but he refused saying he was hurt so was given three successive penalties eventually resulting in him losing the next service game and with it the tie.

There is a big stink going around, but this was play acting at it’s absolute most ridiculous
EDIT: Oh, here’s a clip

I don’t even see the need for this… unless they are trying to adapt to the weather of recent years. It’s also not going attract the best as they will hardly decide to spend a week or so before playing mixed doubles before a major event. You’ll get the specialists and that’s it.

Mixed doubles are woke!

Real men play with themselves.

I wish some “alpha males” would… be less issues.

He’s got off very lightly, in my opinion.

It’s a really unsatisfactory outcome given we won the last two majors after everyone was told the issue was cleared.

Yeah doesn’t even miss any of the majors

Very Convenient for a drug cheat.

Everytime I’ve watched Rune, he looks terrible. Acts like a petulant child quite early when things don’t go his way, then again he is a young man with a lot of maturing to do. Taking nothing away from Draper mind, really improved his game a lot since Wimbledon. His serves are one of the best in the game right now.

Totally agree on both points. Apparently Federer used to be a lot worse when he was a junior but he famously completely changed his court demeanour. It’s a lot of wasted emotional energy and it won’t help him be a better player.
I can’t quite believe how good a player Draper has become in such a short time! Now the world no 7! I am sure a testament to his hard work and discipline. He comes across as a good lad. Hopefully he continues his upward trajectory.

She seems to get through a lot of coaches.

Busted flush I’m afraid. Giving up on her. Look at Mirra Andreescu. She is the future.

Boulter was abysmal last night…Dart should really have overtaken her by now in the WTA rankings.

Also good to see Krygios back with his first win in over 2 years, sets up a 2nd round match against Khachanov…a match that always seems to bring out the funny bad side to him.

Reminds me of Marat Safin. Supremely talented player but not really that interested in tennis. In addition, Kyrgios has his well-documented mental health issues.
