Very arrogant if so.

Anyone who has travelled these last few years will know how much you need to take.

Knowing his history, that would not be a surprise if it is true

Australia needs to stand strong on such high profile personnel challenging the vaccine mandates by exploiting loopholes. I shudder especially when his father compares him as being crucified like Jesus was. He is not a victim, as all of us, he can make a choice and bear the consequences.

If Australia really does grant exemption through previous infection, then I’m unsure why he isn’t in the country already unless there’s something also wrong on the visa side.

IMO I think it’s nuts that you get an exemption through prior infection as it’s a terrible message to send out, particularly for a sports star that’s been infected multiple times through not giving a shit. You are effectively encouraging the sort of people you want to keep it: unvaxxed people that aren’t careful.

On top of that, it also means Australia is taking other countries’ tests as gospel. Given the way the Serbian government have spoken about the situation, I wouldn’t be completely trusting of the information coming from them.

If he gets in and plays, I’m interested how the crowd will react. Presumably as a spectator you need to be double vaxxed so he won’t have all his nutter anti-vaccination supporters in there cheering him on.

So apparently the medical exemption he is claiming is simply he had a previous infection…right…so clever…I will be disappointed if he eventually is allowed in because it is simply sending out a wrong message whether from the country point of view or from the competition point of view. And even if the AO decides an old infection mean eligibility for an exemption, the Government has decided that is not enough, then no way should he be allowed in or else it will make a mockery of the rules being enforced on ‘normal’ day to day people.

Really hope Australia doesn’t back down here.

I thought it was telling that one government official (dont remember who) was quoted as saying that the type of visa he came in on doesn’t allow for prior infection as an equivalent to vaccine, suggesting that maybe some do and that maybe the due diligence done by Djoko’s team wasn’t as good as it should have been. And I dont mean they got the wrong visa, as he’ll have entered the country on the right type of visa loads of times before, but simply they looked at the wrong information for their specific visa. And that makes sense to that you’d manage the communicable disease risk of a professional athlete constantly travelling all over the world differently than you would someone entering the country for work as a new resident.

And who would have thought there would be a lack of due diligence by an anti vaxer who believes he was diagnosed with gluten intolerance after failing a muscle strength test while holding a piece of white bread? Unpossible.

What is this? I know he claims that some diet changes he made years ago is in part responsible for his climb to the top 3 players in the world, but I didn’t know that waving a piece of white bread is how you diagnose this. Feels like we should have a sliced white bread throwing competition.

You’ve seen the sort of scams. It’s a manual strength (sometimes balance) assessment by a woo practioner who will objectively assess you strength before and after employing some sort of intervention. Something like holding you arm and resist them trying to push it back down to your side. It’s often done with shit like copper bracelets, where they pretend you were much stronger when wearing hte bracelet. With Novak it was reported as him being convinced to drop grains from his diet after failing a version of this test while holding a piece of white bread in the untested hand.

It’s the sort of story that sounds like it’s just poorly reported, but I’ve seen it too many times done exactly that stupidly to doubt the accuracy of the reporting.

@Noo_Noo It really is absurd as he’s making them out to be.

I’d almost like to see him make it to the courts, receive a healthy does of booing which rattles him enough to be ousted by a qualifier in the first round.

Na, send him away and have him living in temp accommodation as he struggles to gain entry anywhere. Obviously never going to happen.

I’d like the eventual winner of the Oz Open to dedicate their win to Novak.

@SBYM agrees

He has opened a can of worms

So his own lawyers to prove his point submitted papers that show he tested positive for COVID as recently as 16th of December.

His “medical exemption” is that he has recently recovered. The problem with that his own Twitter profile demonstrates during a period when he knew he was infectious he was attending several public events (literally the next fucking day !!) the moron.

It also raises questions as the deadline for medical expedition submission was the 10th of December. How can he be using an infection from the 16th .

The dubious claim of medical exemption coupled with blatant disregard for public safety when he knew he was infectious almost certainly means will be sent back home.

It also helps that it plays into politics during an election year.

Yessss. This is exactly what I wanted to see happen. It seemed too convenient that he was infected just when he needed to be to get a medical exemption, and I absolutely love that he’s caught in that lie here.

Beautiful. Now fuck off home you selfish git.

According to The Guardian he was approved for ‘medical exemption’ on 30th December so maybe he was able to make a late submission?

I’m not even buying that he tested positive. A person with a massive public profile that from all accounts wants the public to love him, goes out to an event with COVID? Yeah, I know that this is the guy that hosted tennis tournaments and parties at the height of the pandemic, but even for him that would seem pretty reckless for his public image.

Not sure but it all looks pretty damning

So he is either lying  or he has been utterly irresponsible.

He is rightfully going to get a lot of flak for this :joy:

Maybe it’s both?
