Yea if anyone is lying about their covid infection either to get round vaccine mandates or covid restrictions, he needs to be punished. If he cannot be punished legally, then the public needs to let a high profile personnel that what he did is not going to be socially accepted. Its one thing to resist vaccines but another thing to make a mockery of the best chance that the world has to get over this shit.
So basically there are two possibilities 1, he tested positive and carried on regardless endangering everyone he met for the next couple of weeks, or 2, he made it all up.
Either way he needs to get at least a 12 month ban from the game. The rest of us have put up with a ton of shit for two years and no one is in the mood for this kind of reckless disregard from anyone in the public eye.
He did break the rules, and it certainly appears he knew very well what he was about.
The other angle here is a desperate PM who looks like he is on a hiding to nothing in the next few months, and sees this as a chance for some Brownie points.
Another player and an official caught up in the same ballsup have gone home,he should too.
But tomorrow anything could happen.
If he stays and plays he will get some serious stick ,as the perception of different sets of rules depending on how much money you have is endemic under the current Govt.
You’ve also gotta take into account the fact that Australians love cutting a tall-poppy off at the knees.
Trust me. I have been dealing with it my entire life…
Not a 's chance in …
The ITF subscribes to the UCI model of integrity and governance.
But the Australian government has insisted that a recent infection only offers an exemption for residents.
So I can see the ATAGI documentation that shows that prior infection is a temporary medical exemption, but haven’t found any documentation that states it’s only available to Australian residents.
The fact this is now in the hands of the courts, this is going to have a very binary outcome.
If Australia can prove that the temporary medical exemption only applies to residents then Djokovic will be on the first plane out of there.
If however they can’t, then the fact he was flaunting every isolation rule after supposedly testing positive, and the fact he would have been preparing for weeks/months for a tennis tournament he couldn’t play in until he miraculously was exempt through infection at the last minute, are going to be irrelevant to the courts. If that’s the case, he’ll play. I just hope he gets booed through the entire tournament.
Fuck him and all those who organised his ‘infection’.
He should be in jail IMO.
I think the most likely explanation is he is lying, because as mentioned in that series of tweets, what was his alternative to getting to play if he didn’t get it? Just seems too convenient.
However, I wouldn’t rule out complete irresponsible idiocy of being positive (or waiting for his results) while doing all those events. I’ve seen it too many times. Only last week a friend of mine messaged me after encountering someone at lunch sitting at a bar while waiting for their (suspected positive) test results to come in. Apparently they were going to have one more drink and then go and run errands, because once the test comes back positive she wont be able to leave the house for a few days.
The judge is already pounding the government. Seems like they will let him in, for sure.
I would second that if I could, this guy is not just pushing his own right to choose, he is making a mockery of the vaccine , the best chance of the world recovering from this.
Judge: “What more could this man have done?”
You mean like get infected in December like he said he did? Other than that you mean?
Please please please please please please get infected in the first week Novax.
ScoMo feeling the heat??
Will the relevant minister boot ND??
I SAID DO YA SPEAK MY LANGUAGE?? HE JUST SMILED AND GAVE ME A VEGEMITE SANDWICH…
If Novak wanted to improve his likeability, I’m not sure Nigel Farage is the most suitable cheerleader…
Do the federation realise that they look like limp dick jellyfish?
So why, like most people who’ve tested positive, have I been self isolating for the past 5 days, stuck in one room, when a spoilt tennis star can do what the hell he wants? I’d like the Australian court to explain that to me.
Ok he’s in. Up to the tennis god’s to ban him now based on his irresponsible behaviour on and post 16th december.
Judge quashed decision to cancel visa on procedural grounds. Immigration officials basically fucked up.
Initially I felt that Djokovic’s public attendances immediately after testing positive in December would only be relevant for the Serbian authorities (and certainly not relevant for the judge in today’s proceedings) but they do appear to now take on extra significance for the Immigration Minister.
I can’t see how the Minister can allow someone with such a huge public profile to blatantly flout public health and for that to not have any consequences. It would be a disastrous message to send during a pandemic, particularly given what has been expected of the Australian public.
One rule for us etc…
