My birthday is not due for another 6 months and I’m much much above 24.
It’s still way way off.
It’s badly worded. It’s meant to be 83 - age + 41, rather than 83 - (age + 41) which it also reads as.
Unless, of course, you include the century, in which case it is 2000 out.

If you tell me how old you are, I know a much easier way of working out your birth year.

It’s (83 + 41) - your age. Which is 124 - your age. If your last birthday was in 2024 it should work fine. It gives you your year of birth without the 19 in front.
E.g. born in Dec 1980 so currently 44 years old. 124 - 44 = 80
