The TV Thread redux

So, my kids have just started watching a kids cartoon called The Airport Diary. It’s about a transport plane called Gugu, a small plane called Winky and a private jet called Force King.

Winky. Force King.

Wtf.

It reminded me of this classic…

Was finally able to start watching Peaky Blinders two weeks ago. Think the first three seasons had one or two good episodes each but fourth season (with Adrien Brody and Aiden Gillen) was fire.

Reposting because @GermanRed messed up! Luckily I had time to copy my answer :grinning:

I couldn’t get into pesky blinders.

Way too many good ones out there, so I need to base my list on series that I have watched more than once, start to finish. Order of most times watched:

Breaking bad.
Game of thrones.
Prison break.
EDIT:
Spartacus
PS:
Flowery Twats I don’t consider a TV show, it should be in a category all by itself, just too good.

Started watching resident Alien a few days ago, enjoying it. It’s a sci-fi comedy. I can already tell I won’t watch it a second time, so it wouldn’t go on my classics list.

Yeah, I enjoyed Resident Alien, not a classic but still quite amusing. I also didn’t really get into Peaky Blinders.

Again, not classics but shows we’ve enjoyed recently include Colony (near-future in which aliens have already conquered the Earth and people coping living under their rule, it’s good) and Lilyhammer (mob informer gets a new identity to live in rural Norway, funny in a very Scandi dark humour way. If you watched and enjoyed Norsemen you’d like this, in fact many of the actors star in both).

I just started watching Loudermilk on Prime, Ron Livingston (Office Space) plays a washed up asshole who chairs an AA group, very watchable.

I have watched the second season of BIOHACKERS this is a good series and it’s German (so there’s not just DARK).

LUPIN is fun (that’s French btw).

I’m on Van Helsing atm had 5 seasons to get through so it’s lasting a good while (for me) only seen one episode that was far too slow and I fell asleep. I like it particularly as the intrique, enjoyment and quality of each episode is so different ranging from dull and boring to good and lively.

Finally, after about 3 years, finished Deadwood (although not yet the film). There are things I absolutely love about it (Swegen cocksucker), but Im still not really sure what I think about it. I love non-romanticized stories of the West (Pierce Brosnan’s The Son is another great recent example), but Im still not sure about this. Several people whose opinion on these things I really respect say it gets better with a second and third viewing, but it’s such a slow moving and hard slog that I dont know I’ll ever get myself up for that.

I followed that up with Harlan Coben’s (who the fuck is Harlan Coben?) the Five. I wish I hadnt.

Harlan Coben is one of those mystery/Thriller authors who I thought was much older than he is. I thought he was one of those classic noir authors from the 60’s or 70’ but he didn’t start getting published until the early 90’s and appears to be super successful. I’ve never read any of his stuff though I have one of his books on my shelf. Maybe I had confused him with Harlan Ellison or someone…

Just noticed his book titles (33) are usually only 2 (19) or 3 (8) words long. 5 have 1 word titles and 1 has 5 words…

It was a bit of a rhetorical statement as it just seems odd that a man without that much name recognition would get name checked on the series he’s involved with.

Was very excited when V came out, and then disappointed how it ended. I really enjoyed the original at the time, not sure if it would translate (special effects) well nowadays.

Enjoyed the original Stand. The new one is brutally bad, hated it.

Rich man poor man was probably the show that captivated me as far as tv shows go. I am sort of giving away my age with this reference. It was the first time that I actually hated a character because of how mean he was (Falconetti, played by William Smith, who incidentally passed away on 5th of July 2021)

There have been quite a few shows over the past 10 years that have been one season wonders, then dropped due to finances. This is one of the reasons I like to start watching new series in the second year.

In its day Rich Man Poor Man was the one to watch…

Bad guy Falconetti Vrs Good guy Nick Nolte…

Season of 2 of Ted Lasso came out yesterday. It is one of the most delightfully charming shows you’ll ever see. A must watch for football fans.

It started as a promotion for NBC when they first won the broadcast rights to the Premier League - American guy being confused about football. They were extremely funny and showed a surprising knowledge of the UK to be able to land some of those jokes, but when it was announced years later it was being made into a full series I ignored it. It just didnt seem like there was enough there to extend the concept from 3 or 4 five minute skits into a full show. There was. And it’s superb.

I loved that character,Jason Sudeikis plays him brilliantly,is it still only on Apple tv?

I am totally gobsmacked that anyone could not like Ozark.

Will take a while to process this.

It was kinda scary to gaze at the depth of human cruelty and greed.

Yes it was good. The only thing that disappointed me was that they didn’t use the wonderful countryside more. I love seeing the world through all types of TV and ths I feel was an opportunity missed.

I liked this, but it seems to be one of these series that will get canceled enforce the story is finished.

Bloody hell, I hope not! I thought it was just a victim of Covid.

COVID has really screwed with a few series I was looking forward to again, eg, Witcher and carnival row.

Ozark isn’t being cancelled or forced to be finished,it’s coming to a natural end,Jason Bateman has basically said that the way the show is written and the storyline, there are only so many ways to get in and out of the shit (the circumstances the characters get into) before you just have to lock everyone up or kill them off,it’s got to that point now, where season 4 will end the show in the right way.

They were struck by covid like everyone else,so the filming was put on the back burner, they started filming season 4 in march and finish this september,it’s going to be a split season though, where the last 3 seasons were 10 episodes, season 4 is 14 episodes split into two 7’s,from what i’ve read they’ll probably release the first 7 at the start of next year and the last 7 the latter part of the year.
