For me, a similar show was The Wire. I watched it because it came so highly praised from many quarters but I gave up on it after 3 or 4 episodes. Just not my sort of thing.
The biggest one for me was Game of Thrones. Enjoyed the first episode, but 2nd and third had me turn it off
Ditto for the Wire and didnāt get past the 1st couple of episodes of GoTā¦
I did get into GOT but I found the random nudity rather off-putting. I couldnāt decide if it was meant to have a story or was just a soft-porn pastiche of Lord of the Rings.
Ok I started this conversation by mentioning Breaking Bad but Iām regretting now with all this The Wire slander.
You people disgust me.
I had issues with Breaking Bad in the first season but it turned out to be a great one. I hated the violence in it, though, because all of it looked so real. Iām still genuinely haunted by the prison murders sequence. Better Caul Saul was more to my liking and I think itās safe to say itās at least on par with its parent show.
As for The Wire, I recognise its supreme quality but I just couldnāt connect with it on a personal level, unlike Homicide: Life on the Street. I loved the Sobotkas plot, though, but the rest of it was just too cold for me.
Cold? Omar?!
I started watching Better Call Saul. Enjoyed the few episodes, but couldnāt continue. Donāt know why.
I watched the Wire twice and Iāll probably watch it again, in a few years. Brilliant show.
@deneb Ran through the first season of Dark Winds and really enjoyed it. With only 6 episodes in the season barely a scene is wasted
Iāve got the first two episodes recorded and came close to watching them over the weekend but held off just in case it was darker than I wanted to watch. Iāll probably start watching sometime this week.
Riftwar Saga being made into a series with announcement of company gaining the rights to the original trilogy and the Empire trilogy but after 18 months still no word on possible release date.
I hope they actually manage to get this right, as these 2 trilogies are absolutely brilliant, but the development and growth for some of the characters is something that will be very hard to pull off, Iām thinking Tomas/Arshen Shugar and Arutha in particular will be ones that fans will be very quick to pick up on any variations from the novels. Also some of the more loved characters donāt appear in these books, or only have minor roles as they came into focus in later novels
Itās great. Brilliant acting and an intriguing plot against a fascinating backdrop.
Really enjoying it so far.
Is it family friendly? Iāve just finished re-watching the Mandalorian so could start on it tonight.
Glad you enjoyed it. I donāt think itās doing anything groundbreaking or is āmust seeā television. I just think what it does, it does really well and thatās enough.
@redfanman from what I can remember it is no worse than X-files or Twin Peaks levels of family friendly. I wouldnāt put it on for a six year old, but thereās nothing here which will scar a mature 12 year old or an average 14 year old for life. Iāve not actually watched the Alibi run yet though so there could be something Iāve overlooked, was waiting to get scary season finished with before we start on it.
No!
Some gruesome scenes and pretty disturbing.
Maybe a bit subtle and nuanced for youngsters.
Thanks, Iāll save it for the weekend then.
I wasnāt expecting my 6-year-old to watch it (probably will have her head focused on her mumās Ipad) but just wary of if she was to look up and see the screen at inopportune moments.
Seinfeld is shite, isnāt it?
Iāve just checked out the iPlayer and there is a lot of Doctor Who stuff on. It seems to be all the 21st century series and spin offs and most of the original series from 1963 including those episodes that have been lost and animated over the original soundtrack.
Oddly enough, they donāt have the very first story. It starts with The Daleks. Not sure what the issue is there as I have it on DVD.
I dont know if this is urban legend, but there are allegedly a collection of episodes for which the master records were thrown away in a mix up at the BBC
