I finally got around to trying Money Heist. I am about half way through the first season and its fine but Im not sure I understand the attention it got. Maybe that’s because Im watching the Netflix cut though that apparently did a pretty brutal job of reworking the first season.
I finished watching ‘The Residence’ on Netflix last night. Really enjoyed the show although it sometimes felt a little slow, it did a good job of being a whodunnit. I hope there is a follow up.
Tonight i started watching Countdown on Amazon. Not particularly good. Writing is weak.
Is Carol Vorderman still doing it?
Probably not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really liked this show and will miss it.
Hasn’t quite landed the same way as season one did for me yet. Still somewhat enjoyable viewing but it feels a bit messier plot wise with a lot of threads and a lack of character development in certain cases.
I’ve decided to wait until all the episodes have dropped before I get my popcorn and Jaffa Cakes out at the ready…
Difficult to surpass the first season I guess, but still looking forward to watching it though
Yeah I havent watched much that is decent in a while so even a season that doesnt quite live up to the first will probably be a big improvement on what I’ve been watching recently.
Related to that, I listen to a TV review podcast hosted by a couple of screen writers who I think have a really good take on what makes good TV. They dont just talk about what they’re watching, but about why something works or doesnt from a screen writer’s perspective. I was pleasantly surprised to hear an offhand comment the other day about how much they LOVED Dark back in the day, so I went back and listened to the years old episodes where they talked about it. The not just loving appreciation of it, but the professional respect they showed for how incredible a level of difficulty the writers were pulling off…with pretty much every aspect of the show, was a real joy. It added a layer of appreciation for me, to maybe put words to that unspoken feeling I had that I knew I had seen something great but couldnt articulate what made it so good. That has now sparked my interest in doing my first ever end to end rewatch but that is at least in part the result of there being nothing particularly worthy of my attention I’ve been able to find recently.
For anyone not adverse to reading subtitles, or for having their head spinning with intrigue and messed with, trying to guess which way the story and each episode will turn, there is a South Korean drama called MOUSE…
Included a 2min trailer… and I have listed some of the comments left by viewers..!

This is the first (and only) drama that I wrote NOTES of every episode. The story was so intriguingly convoluted and the acting so subtle yet full of impact, I needed to digest and digest…Some scenes will never be forgotten. Lee Seung-gi, acting god indeed! He and the full cast and the production staff gave their all to make the scriptwriter proud.

I litterally can’t get mouse out of my head, best thriller kdrama ever! Lee seung gi was perfect as Jung Bareum, phenomenal acting. The whole cast was great
@Rorry9377
A true masterpiece! The storyline the plot twists the small details everything came together amazingly.. it’s a mind blowing! I was confused, doubtful, thrilled and constantly thinking.. the acting was terrific so I had a conflict feelings for the main character. Unforgettable series can’t get enough of it and I wish it will be a new season
@fluffybub
After I finished watching it, I called my sister and ranted about it for an hour. She was so concerned about my mental health coz i kept telling her that I want to erase my memory so that I could watch this drama again
@not.ordinary
Just completed watching this series yesterday omg this one is beyond my predictions…very intellectual writing and smooth plots …damn that’s one good series I ever watched for so long …all the actors did justice for them roles
@JustSomeLunaticW.OAMustache
This show is sooo good yet so underrated. This trailer alone deserves a million views and the show should be talked again and again as it was truly a masterpiece. Everything is just so well executed. And the soundtracks? Chef’s kiss I cant get over this show, U literally just finished this an hour ago but Im rewatching it again
…and there is about a zillion more comments all very similar
Noah Hawley’s first episodes of Alien Earth were released this week. The Alien franchise has become a bloated, silly mess with nothing good since Cameron’s sequel (the Prometheus sidebar had potential but was executed absurdly poorly), but if anyone can do something to bring something new and worthwhile to it, something that uses the source material while treading its own path, then it’s Hawley (best known for the Fargo series).
I watched the first episode and thought it only so-so, but part of that was how much world bulding he had to do for what is so far a really pretty different take on the IP. They released the first two back to back so I’ll try the second tonight
Cancelled all the US streaming services. It’s actually amazing how much we don’t miss them at all.
It’s reviewing well from what I’ve seen.
Of all those I’ve used during the last few years, I believe that HBO and Apple TV+ are those with the greatest staying power. Unfortunately, it’s pretty difficult to have an Apple TV+ subscription if you don’t own an iPhone and generally detest Apple’s ecosystem but I have to go out of my way to praise them. HBO is a level above, though.
Hawley’s work I’ve seen is amazing in my opinion. Legion is one of my favourite TV shows of all time, while first two seasons of Fargo were excellent - though I stopped watching after the second one because I genuinely couldn’t stand his brand of violence as it was too realistic. I have high hopes for his Alien TV show, partially because majority of post-Aliens films have lowered the bar.
We just watched the first episode and I was very impressed. It’s doing a lot of backstory at the moment, but it seems to have interesting themes.
Given how disappointed I was with Romuls’s Alien-by-numbers it was very refreshing.
Oh, and Black Sabbath’s Mob Rules over the closing titles was a nice touch.
We’ve just arrived late to the ‘Guilt’ party.
Season one the best, but it’s all watchable.
Excellent performances and great shots of Edinburgh’s various sides.
The BBC have announced the release date for their William The Conqueror drama (24 August 2025):
I’ve no idea when this will be released internationally, but it follows on nicely from the Vikings series.
Watched the first episode last night, thoroughly enjoyed, I agree there was a lot of scene setting but it still flowed quite well. I’ll stick on episode two after the match later.
