The TV Thread redux

Watched the first 2 episodes of The Wheel of Time… 6/10… It’s a steady start, but didn’t blow me away like say the Lord of the Rings movies did.

Disappointing.

Although to be fair, I thought it took GoT 4 maybe 5 episodes to find its stride as well. Sometimes when the story has that many threads it is worth it to avoid the temptation of laying it all on the table from the get go.

Might explain why it’s taken so long for a film or series to be made of what is probably one of the biggest selling series of fantasy novels.

What? Narcos Mexico just released the 3rd season. I didn’t even know they were making one.

I am generally uneasy about the glorification of organized crime in tv/cinema, but I think Narcos does as good a job as I’ve ever seen of humanizing the guys while still being unambiguous about the horrible shit they did.

I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Both versions of that show have been exceptional.

I believe they have another show in the works about the Colombian drug queenpin Griselda Blanco, though despite having the same creative team attached to it, it isn’t being classed as another spin off.

Streaming Service options in UK - what is everyones opinions on the UK options?

Currently got Netflix, Disney Plus and Prime.

Does anyone use NowTV and is it worth it? Having a look, apart from the sports package it seems hard to find what shows/films they have

No I don’t. Amazon has some paid channels. Not sure how they work but may offer some decent stuff…I think you might get HBO that way if that has anything of interest?

I use the three you have but barely have time to watch anything on them

Not in UK, but dropped Disney as the variety is so low. Just got Netflix and Prime and DAZN for football (PL and CL), no other sports as I have dropped them all due to the politics that has polluted the game. No Cable or satellite.

If I want to watch older shows that are not on those services, then I use other means that some people might not be comfortable with.

Never heard of NowTV. The issue I have is that there is not enough new viewing media that is not covered on my current streaming service (Netflix and Amazon), so can’t justify adding anything else.

I get ya - whilst Disney variety is low, it has Marvel which in the coming couple of years will add quiet a bit (if that sort of stuff floats your boat)

Now TV is UK streaming set up that allows you to get Sky Sports without any contract so can leave whenever but not sure what else it gets access to. If it is only football that I would be watching not sure if there are better options or not

I’ve got NOW, Disney+, Netflix and Prime. I subscribed to them all during the first lockdown as I was off work (paid, wahey) and had nothing else to do.

NOW TV does have a lot of the best shows - that’s where I watched The Wire. The Sopranos is on there, Deadwood is on there, Succession is on there, GOT, True Detective, Dexter. The film selection is ace too, I’ve watched Goodfellas, The Godfather(s), The Warriors, ROTLA etc.

Unless you’re a huge Marvel or Star wars fan and want to watch everything, Disney+ is probably only worth it for a month or two at the time. I got it for The Mandalorian, now that’s finished I hardly use it.

I also should get out more.

Just watched ‘Only Murders In The Building’ on Star (Disney+)

It’s the best comedy I’ve seen since Schitt’s Creek and not much of a commitment as it’s only 10 half hour episodes.

Worth a watch if you’re looking for something new at the moment.

Is there a new season coming out this December, or is it just the Boba Fett show/film that’s coming out?

No release date as far as I’m aware.

There’s Obi-Wan being released at some point next year too.

There is a 3rd season, not sure when it is due out though. It would be highly surprising to have 2 series running together though, so I would imagine it to be coming out next year some time.

I really want to bin off Disney, I never use it, but unfortunately my son watches Moana 2 or 3 times a day.

Your son has good taste!

Just finished season 5 of Animal Kingdom and now waiting for the 6th and final season.

The introduction of the flashbacks and the departure of Ellen Barkin kind of saved the show for me. Really enjoyed season 5 and how the boys were bonding after Smurfs death.

Thanks for that. Watched it and was good :+1:
