The TV Thread redux

My only difficulties with the show is having Johnny Pemberton in it. He isnt a bad actor or anything, but everytime I see him I can’t get his character, Bo, from Superstore out of my head

There was a nice video from one of these other evens the other week of him asking Chalamet for a selfie. As he got his phone out Timmy saw LFC stuff on his lock screen and responded by paying tribute to Jota

Has anyone had a look already?

I think it launches in Germany on 19th. I’m assuming it is on WOW (Sky Deutschland streaming) but it isn’t listed yet.

We definitely want to watch it.

The previews looked like it had what House of the Dragon missed from the original series - a bit of humour. I’ve enjoyed HotD but it does lack some of the more light hearted moments from the original GoT. Helps balance the otherwise bleak and violent nature of the rest of the story

My understanding is that GRRM has not completed the story of Dunk and Egg (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms). So there you go. It will probably end up like GoT without proper ending.

Edit: Yup, from wikipedia:

Three novellas have been published – The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010) – and Martin has stated his intention to continue the series. A collection of the existing three novellas, with illustrations by Gary Gianni, was published as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on October 6, 2015.

I watched His and Hers the other day on netflix, so so program, not terrible, but hardly anything groundbreakingly interesting.

the show did have a fair bit of sex, i have a genuine question though, for those in TAN land

extended sex scenes in TV?

raunchy quite explicet and any sex scene that goes on for 20/30 seconds( no jokes here guys about performance please)…i just fast forward them, they are hardly a turn on, infact i feel a bit pervy watching them, im not watching the TV to get my rocks off, i just want to watch a show…

im OK with a scene that leads to passionate kissing and a bit of undressing…implied sex…but watching two actors pretend to Cum or go at it Doggy…i just cant be bothered.

do people actually enjoy watching extended, graphic sex scenes in a drama show?

I dont know but I’ll have to check it out so I can make up my mind. Is there one episode in particular where it was gratuitous? Around what time into the episode?

having a 15 and a 12 year old doesnt help…sitting around watching a bit of family tele and watch some dude smash one into his mistress while she opera sings her heart out…call me old fashion, but…

Tonight’s episode of Traitors had me absolutely raging, just how thick can a group of people be

Neve Campbell. Yeah, I felt the need I should remind everyone about it, even though it’s a film. You started it!

Just finished Pluribus S1. They’ve left it open, so I’d expect more.

It’s original, in an unoriginal way. We’ve all seen the ‘something from outer space affects everyone except a few who have to save the world’ and it’s got nods to everything from Soylent Green to Day of the Triffids. Seahorn’s character is very unlikeable, I’m not sure if that’s intentional, or just me. The interesting question, in my opinion, is the conflict between the collective and the individual, as is indicated by the title. We still don’t know which side the show will come down on, but as it’s a US show, we can guess. There was an interesting scene where the US survivor (Carol/Seahorn) meets the other survivors, who are from all over the world. She assumes control of the conversation and alienates the others with her arrogance, which I was hoping would lead to a look at US imperialism, but that hasn’t really been explored too much.
It’s opened up a lot of questions without beginning to answer them, and I guess how it does so will decide my feelings about it as a whole. I’ll watch the second season, but it could go either way.
Some of the time it felt a bit too self-conscious and a bit pleased with itself, but I hope that will diminish.

I don’t think it’s as common as it used to be, but I often feel sex scenes are shoehorned in without adding anything to the plot. I find that it looks unpleasant, the actors are clearly uncomfortable with it.

I remember Game Of Thrones was like that in its early series. Someone nicknamed it “Tits and Dragons”. I found with that it cheapened the look of it, and made it look like some sort of exploitation film.

I’m with you on that @Redbj
They usually seem unnecessary and don’t do much to move the narrative forward. If the characters are heading towards that we can see it coming (no pun intended), but the actual scenes are mostly gratuitous and sanitised attempts to titillate the audience. If I just want to watch people having sex there are plenty of places to go on the internet, otherwise just get on with the story because we’re old enough to understand what the characters are up to and we don’t really need to see it (often poorly) depicted.

Not a sex scene but I was watching Moonrise Kingdom a few days ago - the Wes Anderson movie. It’s about two 12 year olds falling in love and running away together.
There is a scene in the movie where they kiss and the camera changes to a kind of POV angle of kissing the girl. Then immediately after it she tells the boy to touch her chest which he does.

I suppose it is supposed to be all innocent enough, a portrayal of awkward young people exploring but it made me feel very uncomfortable. Then I looked at IMDB and realized the actors were 12 years old at the time of filming - so essentially the director thought it was appropriate and necessary to give the audience a POV angle of kissing a 12 year old girl and then show her getting felt up.

I didn’t like it at all (also the movie itself was crap).

Depends on the show. I laughed at it and enjoyed it in GOT. Tits and dragons, what’s not to like, as the great Ian McShane once said.

Any sort of show trying to be a serious drama can probably do without long gratuitous scenes. My kids are still young enough that they go to bed before any ‘adult TV’ gets watched. When they are teenagers I’ll probably be more in line with what you think.

Until this picture appears, I was having difficulties in imaging Sansa, I mean Sophie Turner, plays Lara Croft. Her face is not long enough though.

Roxy is arguably the least intelligent faithful of all time, she’ll be dragged along until the end by a traitor and be a big help in them winning.
