I liked it more than the final few seasons of the first run… right up until that final scene, which undid pretty much all the goodwill.
Finished it last night. It’s pretty good, although I’d guessed a lot of what the mystery was before you found out.
Just such an utterly nonsensical idea. The worst thing about it is I’ve read the showrunner had this very ending as his starting point for the series and then worked backwards from there.
Yeah, it definitely had something of the ‘taking my ball home so no-one else can play with it’ feel about it.
Been watching Book of Boba Fett. I haven’t been impressed to be honest. It doesn’t fit for me.
Seems the author of this article agrees
Yeah, we’ve not been overly impressed.
Lot of questionable inclusions that haven’t added to the story for me.
The flashback story seemed more interesting than the main story. Haven’t even watched it this week yet.
Not sure I agree with the article particularly, there’s just a lot of other things which seem off with it. Like the parkour ninjas and the cyber-vespa gang.
The stuff with the Tusken Raiders was good, but kind of already done in The Mandalorian. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see them turn up in the Obi Wan series.
I never understood the degree of his popularity. My take as a kid was that it was a bit of a reactionary position. The favourite character of kids who wanted to show they were different by not having one of the obvious characters as their favourite. Regardless, what was clear was that it was enabled by how limited his role was. I dont think any version of this show could have been done and not damage to the way the character was viewed.
it’s at FOUR seasons now? WOW. I gotta get back into that.
go back a few years to Deadwood.
Yellowstone is pretty much Sons of Anarchy on horses instead of motorcycles.
I think maybe part of it was marketing? I remember having the toy and his ship and thinking they were cool AF, but I don’t remember much of that feeling coming directly from the films themselves.
On another note, starting watching The Expanse. Me likey.
The toys probably do make a huge difference in Fett’s appeal, but I think the character himself was pretty cool with the awesome suit, jet pack and gadgets. Also as a bounty hunter he had an air of badassitude about him in ESB, and showed he was clever in his ability to track Solo down when escaping the Empire destroyers.
The lack of screen time probably aided his popularity.
There was something badass about him and the other bounty hunters in Empire that just stuck I guess, even from the very brief scene(s) they had. I remember getting one of the toys because they were cool. I could never get any of the main character toys. No internet.
Boba Fett here is just not badass. He’s only ok in a fight having been beaten up a few times already. He’s not the same guy that’s the bounty hunter that worried me as a little kid.
Only thing is whether there will be another massive nostalgia hit to finish the series as in the Mandalorian.
I take it everyone has given up on Dr Who? I know there are some one time big fans here and I havent heard a peep about the new series and only figured out last night it had started (and finished already).
I haven’t given up but I barely watch it now. I did watch some recent episodes, and will probably continuing to watch in some capacity.
I just feel it tries too hard to be trendy or clever with its social messaging etc.
To be fair Eccleston was probably the last doctor I watched regularly. This isn’t a new issue I have with it but it does feel like its being put on a bit too thick now.
Please watch Tennant, for my money the best doctor ever.
And I gave up watching it some years ago, even on a rewatch last year we kind of tailed off mid-Matt Smith, when the storylines just became too convoluted to be fun.
I like Jodie Whittaker as an actor in other stuff, I just found her first series to be so badly written and preachy it did me in. Not watched any since.
That’s the issue for me. I’ve watched it semi-regularly, but not a fan to the point I know much about the history of the show. I repeatedly had difficulty following what was going on, and and assumed it was because it was doing a lot of fan service by referencing past events and plots I wasnt familiar with (Me and Zinny knew a guy who thought everything was to do with the Valeyard…WTF is a Valeyard?). Turns out its actually just convoluted nonsense.
To be fair Dr Who always was convoluted nonsense and all the better for it. I loved it for a while and the music still sends shivers down my spine, but I gave up after Tom Baker. No idea what happened after that. Amazed it’s still going tbh.
I watched Tennant and liked him, but I think I was annoyed Eccleston wasn’t given a further series so wasn’t drawn to him the same.
Agree on Matt Smith.
I dont think it was ever convoluted in the same way as it has become recently. Now things get thrown in that are unnecessary to the story.
By the way, Peter Davidson and Colin Baker succeeded Tom Baker and were in my opinion both very good.
