The TV Thread redux

Dopesick… utterly horrific and engrossing.

My patience is short with TV and movies these days. If it starts poorly or I’m not in the mood I’ll switch off. So I’ve started looking at various documentaries that are available on the BBC and others via Amazon. Anything to satisfy my interest in physics, cosmology, the Universe and stuff like that.

Last week I came across “Everything and Nothing” which is basically current theories on how the Universe came to be. fascinating stuff. Worth a look.

last night found “Uranium” which starts with how the world went from considering Uranium ore to be some waste material to the Atomic bomb at Hiroshima. Equally fascinating. To me anyways

Well worth a watch is
The Alpinist…
True story of a guy hailed as the best mountain climber of the century…!
Harrowing and awe inspiring in equal measure
Camera shots are definitely not for the faint hearted…
Was told not to google… but dive straight in and watch in wonder… 10/10

Best episode of Boba Fett so far…for obvious reasons.

Don’t know who was more epic, David Suchet himself or the Poirot character.

It seems like a reach of a case, but this line from the defense doesnt seem reasonable…

It added the the show’s millions of viewers would require “knowledge of competitive Soviet chess in the 1960s” to understand the alleged defamation.

Surely, the defamation is that, as no one knows anything about 60s soviet chess, every viewer would have been left with a lower opinion of the woman’s accomplishments than were real. Saying “no one know who she is or what she’s done so we can say she was a one eyed whore and no one will know the difference” is not really a defense.

I’ve started running again after quite a layoff for one reason or another.

Anyhow, having watched the 14 peaks etc. I stumbled onto a programme on a race I’d very briefly heard of. The Dragons Back which is basically a race on foot down the spine of Wales in 5 days picking up a whole heap of mountain peaks on route. Basically a ultra marathon fell run for 5 days on the trot.

Great little story. What struck me was that the competitors were generally normal people, not the super athletes but obviously capable ultra marathon runners and fell runners. Some were just walkers.

The kick in the tail came in the credits when a little snippet came up on the two guys placed 1st and 2nd. No spoilers.

After a couple of comments on here I started watching Archive 81 and am seriously underwhelmed.

What about The Responder? Martin Freeman’s scouse accent ok?

Better Scouse accent than most of the local cast. Freeman is superb.

I liked it. A few people here have commented that they didn’t like it because it shows Liverpool in a negative light, which I think is a nonsense criticism for a crime drama.

It’s a good representation of certain sections of society here in the city IMO. Good show.

Yeah, I like him and have high hopes of the show

Pretty much the only time I’ve ever seen my part of the world on the telly was in the recent Luke Evans murder drama (Pembrokeshire murders). The program is a docuseries about the investigation into holiday makers who were murdered execution style while walking the coast path and all everyone from back home, including myself, could think when watching it was “oooohhh, look. They’re having a pint in the Swan. That’s exciting innit.”

I watched this last night. Man alive, what a creature. To flash climb those peaks is phenomenal but to do it without ropes is another level. No one is near him IMO.

There was one clip where he was climbing what basically amounted to overhanging icicles. I was wincing given how fragile they are.

I’m also deeply fascinated by the mental make up of these people. He had EDHD, Alex Honnald has also been diagnosed within a particular spectrum, can’t remember what exactly. But it appears to allow them to disconnect from the risks but also have the focus and drive to undertake these climbs. Really intriguing.

DO NOT GOOGLE BEFORE WATCHING!

Yeah, I’m in awe of what people can achieve sometimes and how they live. He lived in a tent for example. Just full dedication to that way of life, and what a life it can be.

I’ve done a teeny but of climbing so have some small appreciation of the skills at play here.

Just started watching imposters, has it been mentioned here? 2 episodes in and it’s quite interesting so far, don’t know how I missed this one.

Ending is very underwhelming and you can probably guess most of what happens.
