The TV Thread redux

Is it even really Halo if none of the characters hits their mate in the back of the head with the butt of their rifle? :man_shrugging:t2:

Will the show also give us the ragdoll physics when one getting shot?

You just awakened my nightmares. I spent months getting this to work nicely.

Nearly at the end of season 1 of imposters, I like it.

Agreed. Although I think the last picture should have been of a cheeky halfling smile

Provide proof please.

Is it some spin-off or the TV serial version of the movie/book?

It’s an adaptation of other Tolkein books devoted to the detailed back story to the LotR. What it appears to be about is the period in which Sauron reappeared and crafted the Rings of Power that are the focus of LotR, as described in the opening poem

"Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. "

Basically the Second Age also known as The Age of Numenor. 3000 years or so!

Lord of Rings as people know it, main books, films etc. are the Third Age.

It should end with Isildur cutting the ring off Saurons finger aka the beginning of Lord of the Rings…

Yeah, it’s a long period. Sauron doesn’t reappear for 500 years and the rings are not forged for a further 1000 years. While there are then several small conflicts it takes another 2000 years for the war of wrath to really start. I hope they tell the entire story and stay faithful to the timeline, but I think that will difficult to do on TV, which is why there are questions about what exactly the show will cover. Other (bad) options are to tell only a small portion of that story (maybe with timeline jumps a la lost) or tell a version of the story in a compressed timeline.

On lighter note, the Reacher series starts tonight on amazon. Looks fun.

Finished Dopesick last night. I was uncertain because I’ve read a LOT about the Sacklers in the past few years so wasnt sure what more worthwhile this could offer, but it was really good. Even if you know all about the story the dramatization they do to tell the story of the damage caused was really well done.

Yep just a few important events…

Of course, someone otherwise known as Iluvater should be listened to on such matters.

Thanks @Limiescouse and @Draexnael . Are these written by Tolkein himself?

Yes, but not all are books… This explains it… The amount of texts Toklein wrote about his world and events is utterly vast.

The origin myth of the universe in which LotR is set is written in a book called the Silmarilion. That was definitely written with a view to being published, albeit wasnt until several years after his death. That focuses on the more ancient parts of the history of his world and only touches comparatively briefly on the events Draexnael has referred to as the second age. Most of everything else we know of the second age comes from a collection of other writing that were published only after one of his sons compiled, edited and filled in the gaps. Its these additional materials that will be the focus of this show.

It’s apparently a hard read when compared to the hobbit and lotr.

It is. But it makes LotR so much more of a rewarding book if you can get through it and keep track. There are several themes that aren’t really explored in the Jackson films, mostly about Aragon’s lineage and connections to Elrond. They are only briefly touched upon in the book itself, but on rereading after having read the Silmarilion you get something different out of it.

I have always intended to read, was put off by the hard read feedback. I should probably read before the movie/show. The films had to skip quite a few characters/situations if I recall correctly.
