The TV Thread redux

Its the kinda series that you want to see. And am a star wars fan (as if the forum name wasnt enough) but its more due to the original films plus clone wars plus the old republic games rather than the new shit that has been puton by Disney.

With the mandalorian , they’ve got the chance to start again. Dont even think about making it a theatrical release , their tv shows should be on point to cater to the fanbase

Without wanting to disclose the spoilers , I’d say the build up for s2 and the disclosure there has been nothing less than awesome.

Watched the undoing on HBO, was not impressed at all.

It’s like a 6 hr version of law and order, but with less plot twists.

Shetland like series are just lunacy. How/why do you drag a story over 4-5 episodes???

Shows are all about subverting viewer expectations these days. The writers of this one knew their viewers were expecting twists and turns and a big pay off and so were brave in their decision to make it all utterly pointless.

Such a waste of time.

It really was. Kept waiting for some sort of reveal, or what was the point?

Poorly written show with so many problems. By episode 3 I was like…uh oh. This show just might be really terrible. Wife quit on it before that, but I was determined to stick around to see how they pivoted, could have been something interesting lol.

Then I just hate watched the last three. Not sure what the point of any of it was.

They pivoted by staying the course and making the conclusion exactly what it looked like being in the first episode. You would have expected a pivot. Not giving you one IS the pivot. It’s the Lucas of screen writing. It’s not his pass. It’s not even his dummy run. It’s his standing still when you expect him to make a dummy run that really makes us tick.

In all seriousness, I think they thought the Kidman witness testimony was the big pivot. However, it was all so boring and she such a strange character that it didn’t strike me until a day later that her testimony was actually her plan. But as it just kind of happened without there being any sort of response to it, I missed that was what they were trying to do.

Just read the convo above and felt like recommending a high quality film. It is not new, but in my opinion, everyone should see it once.

It contains strong acting, a stronger story and is a thoroughly good “historical” drama/spy drama.

If you haven’t seen it, you are missing out.

Yeah I googled it and read review after to see what the hell i was missing, and that was the take.

Haven’t seen it but remember when it came out it was heavily recommended in the UK, much more than foreign films usually are.

Maybe we can have a male Doctor who at last :innocent:

why does he have to be a doctor…seems like social engineering…only more affluent proffessionals get to shape events…

maybe he should be a blue collar worker?

event staff who?

He/she/it could have a new catchphrase to end each episode, delivered to the camera with a knowing wink:

“Do you want fries with that?”

Didn’t even realise there’d been a second series?

I don’t really care who the next doctor is, as long as they overhaul the writing team, which has been in terminal decline since the latter days of David Tennant, and reached an absolute nadir with what I saw of Whittaker’s first series.

Many people seem to have the same opinion of the writers,Jodie is a bloody good actor who has been wasted by these inept writers.
It also gave a lot of ammunition to the people who hated the idea of a time travelling shapeshifting alien changing gender.
I may have missed it but I don`t remember so much hate when Missy appeared.

I think there would have been a lot less opposition had an actress of the stature of Olivia Colman, for example, been cast as the Doctor. However even she would struggle with the poor quality of the scripts.

I’m sorry, but don’t think Whitaker is a particularly good actress. She appears to confuse gurning with portraying a range of emotion.

The main problem with Doctor Who is that it is a terrible TV show with awful acting and even worse writing. I can only imagine it is sustained on nostalgia not the current product.

There has never been any acting in Dr Who, it’s for kids!

@jgw_geneseo @Limiescouse Could not agree more on The Undoing. Was waiting for plot twists and turns of events and was all too linear. That said, I was actually fine with the linear structure, but the ending was almost laughable. Really poorly written ending and a complete let down. And what the heck did Nicole Kidman do to her face with all that plastic surgery?!

Regarding Mando, I think it’s written really well. Jon Favreau has done an exceptional job writing his vision and Dave Filoni’s direction has been top class. Some of the acting leaves a little to be desired, but the writing and direction are tops. And I’m a Star Wars snob.

Season 2 was fantastic. Resurrecting Boba Fett was a stroke of genius and inline with Star Wars canon of his fate being unknown after he fell into Sarlacc in ROTJ. They also portrayed Boba as the fierce fighter he was always supposed to be. I was almost in tears during the S2 finale. I had a hunch it was coming. Very emotional and adrenaline filled for many reasons. There was even an “Easter egg” contained within that ending. I don’t want to give anything away as to spoil it for folks.

**Note on Season 2 Finale: Jon Favreau has been careful not to rewrite any existing SW timelines, history, or canon, so I don’t think “that” will be part of the S3 story. I think it was a temporary “pop” as a payoff to viewers.
