The TV Thread redux

The last 2 seasons of GOTs were shit but HODs is really good.

Watched latest ROP episodeā€¦ back to #1

Rewatching the first three Mike Flanagan series, there are some seriously great performances in here. Many long, single take ā€˜soliloquysā€™ that are so impressive but I didnā€™t appreciate the first time round.

Not watched The Midnight Club yet as trying to read the book first.

Is House of Dragon on Amazon Prime?

It`s on the High Seas and on my hard drive so who cares.

This is great. I was talking to my girlfriend only this weekend about Haunting of Hill House and potentially rewatching it over the next few weeks as sheā€™s never seen it so might give this a bash instead.

Paddy Considine - what a performance in the latest HotD episode.

HOTD was exceptional this week, Ep8. ā€œHe can keep his tongueā€ Brilliant line. Next one will be something incredible I suspect. Rings of Power is utter, utter, utter shite. Hate saying it but my god itā€™s hideous.

Almost unrecognisable at the end but incredible nonetheless.

One thing that occurred to me this week compared to Game Of Thrones is that the sexual content is much more restrained in HouseOf Dragon. Sex and nudity only seem to feature if required for dramatic reasons whereas GOT used to stick some random tits in around the 10 minute mark every week.

Odd observation really but it makes it feel like a far classier production.

Not just that, the gore and gruesome is dialled back too. Iā€™d be happy for jnr to watch this series. GOTs not so much.

The episodes have incrementally became better and last two were indeed very nicely made. The crab-feeder scene aside, the rest has been really built up nicely.

RoP question

Who are the three women/witches/beings in white who torched the Harfoot caravans and are after the man from the fallen star?

Donā€™t remember them from the books.

No one knows for sure yet. It was discussed in spoilers above, with some obvious candidates as guesses, but the show has not explicitly said who they are. I think their response to being threatened by the Harfoot fella seems to suggest guesses that had them being part of the good guys are not correct and that doesnt leave too many (any?) book characters who it could be.

It was the first episode I enjoyed. The things that happened finally seemed consequential. Itā€™s still at it best when it focuses on the main characters who were front and center in the first episode. Hopefully weā€™re done with the big time jumps now and the current versions of the younger characters can actually build some ownership of the plots they are part of.

I get why they made that decision, with the time jumps and frequent recasting, I just think itā€™s resulted in a disjointed season.

Agree with HOD. I keep joking with my wife that we watched 6 hr ā€˜last time on HODā€™ recap, and the show finally actually started.

Quick question on Midnight Club - What age is it suitable for? My 14yr old Goddaughter is expressing an interest. Sheā€™s a huge ST fan to give you an idea.

No idea on this show specifically, but I donā€™t think there is anything in MFā€™s previous 3 Halloween targeted ā€œscaryā€ shows that would be unsuitable for a normal 14 year old who was specifically interested in watching some horror type stuff.

No question that Mr Eyepatch is going to go way beyond being a proper bastard. His brotherā€™s a c@@t but he really does look like a cross between Jofrey and Ramsay Bolton. GreatšŸ‘

The TV output has been much better than the films, but on the whole itā€™s disappointing. Aside from Rogue One (which was great) the films have been hugely laughably bad. The biggest problem being the lack of an overriding narrative for those films. Each film has been a reaction to the issues with the previous one. And so badly written. The words ā€˜Somehow, Palpatine has survivedā€¦ā€™ would be heavily criticised in a GCSE writing project.

Onto Andor. Decent, but I wish it would get on with itā€¦

You donā€™t hate saying it. You love saying it.

I think itā€™s great, even if it could do with, like Andor, getting moving a bit.

Absolutely no time for Game of Thrones. Iā€™ve seen Lord of the Rings, and Iā€™ve seen Porn, so I reckon if I just combine the two mentally Iā€™m about there.
