Got through another couple last night and in the end it’s actually coming together nicely. In the 2nd last episode, one of the characters describes what they’re doing with the Stubs as a form of imperialism, something characterized by the absence of concern for how the subjects are treated if benefits the empire. I don’t know whether it was intended, but I think it was particularly impactful that the line was delivered by a Scottish ethnically chinese woman.
It’s a Taylor Sheridan show, the guy who wrote Yellowstone and its spin offs. He had a good run of success prior to that (Sicaro, Hell or High Water), but with the success of Yellowstone seems to now have been tasked with reviving Paramount’s TV arm
The Scottish ethnically Chinese actress is Cho in Harry Potter… my wife pulled out that gem.
Started Severance, 4 episodes in.
Outstanding show. Original story, eerie atmosphere, great acting and fantastic music.
As with Ted Lasso and Slow Horses, superb content from Apple.
Jnr talked me into watching Wednesday. Seriously good stuff. The girl in the lead is deliciously acerbic, spikey, vicious and down right unpleasant in the best possible way. On Ep3 now. It’s Stranger Things set in Hogwarts with Tim Burton’s alter female child’s daughter in the lead with a side order of Once Upon a Time.
Really, give it a whirl. Unlike so many series, it actually gets moving from the start.
Christina Ricci is good in it as well.
“If he breaks your heart I’ll nail-gun his”
What a line
Classic rock played on strings throughout too. It’s bloody wonderful!
Finished it over the weekend. Joyful television. Great acting from all, well written and a delicious score. Has the added bonus of having Tim Burton’s gothic dark humour all over it.
Roll on season 2🤞
Yeah, it was great. And a couple of minor jump-scares aside there wasn’t anything else in the rest of the season that bothered my 9 or 12-year-old.
What platform?
Netflix. Now on Ep5, superb.
Yeah, my 10 and 11 year old loved it.
As weird as it is, Thing was a great character with his / her own personality traits.
Yeah my 16 and 11 year olds said the same
Just finished the series. Brilliantly meta, wonderfully on point, takes the piss out of so many aspects of modern life, references pretty much every movie and TV show in the last 30 years and shows Disney how to make an enjoyable program with out ramming the message down our throats. Excellent, utterly excellent. *****
Took me a minute to realise that wasn’t a swear at the end lol
Definitely a nod to An American Werewolf in London in there too.
Loved the Back to the Future one. More Easter eggs than Tescos in March.
When I first moved to the US my friends all mocking asked if I’d be going to a dance where everyone stands in a circle around me while I bust out some moves. That made me like the dance scene even more.
For the Warhammer fans…it’s happening (probably!)!!
Games Workshop have agreed a deal with Amazon for the latter to develop tv shows and movies using Games Workshop intellectual property. They are now in discussions to agree a deal on what will actually be made.
cross post with movie thread!
