The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Would be stupid to let him go.

Unless he had the desire to move on, and a fair fee comes in, agree.

But, with our schedule, it would be good if we can keep hold of him - a top professional, who last year showed he can really do a job once he settles a bit.

I’m not so sure. I like the player, and he did well for us, playing more than anticipated last season.

Slot is now the man at the helm, and I think he is looking for something a bit different. He wants footballers in the engine room, players who are good on the ball, good on the half turn, press resistant, and can keep it all moving. I’m not so sure that is Endo’s strong suit.

Beyond that, there is the issue of depth.

Let’s say Slot plays 3 in midfield, a double pivot and one in front. The first three and the immediate back up three will probably be:

Mac Allister
Zubimendi
Szoboszlai

Jones
Gravenberch
Elliott

Then there is Bajcetic. If he is loaned out to play more, he doesn’t factor into this season’s midfield depth, but at the moment he is here, and he will be wanting to see some action to continue his development.

I’m not altogether sure where this leaves Endo, and the fact that we let it be known that we had rejected a bid for him may have been an indication that we are open to offers?

I’m chilled if he stays, but the signs aren’t pointing in that direction, for me.

Alternatively, it could have been a message that we will only sell for proper money and a warning to clubs that we won’t let Endo go on the cheap, even if Zubimendi arrives.

We have too many (in terms of numbers). At this point it doesn’t make sense to keep Endo unless we plan to loan Bajcetic out for more experience.

If Slot means to use a double pivot all season long, having just two specialised players available for that role just won’t cut it. It makes far more sense to have at least three. Bajcetic plus Endo plus new guy would make three.

Gravenberch would make four. The point is, that we have to find a way to reduce squad numbers.

It doesn’t make sense for us to carry 8 midfielders: Mac, Szobo, Jones, Elliott, Gravenberch, Zubi (if he joins), Endo, Bajcetic… not to mention the need to dispose of Bobby Clark, McConnell and Tyler Morton.

I’d predict that Clark and McConnell will be loaned, Endo and Morton will be sold.

You always need the ability to have something a bit different in the squad thats one thing you could say over the last few years we had become a bit samey with the players we have.

Yeah, I agree. We have plenty of midfielders already. It seems to me you don’t go out and make a big move like this just to add another body when we’ve already got this many midfielders. You do it because you’re not happy with the fit of one (or more) or the players provisionally earmarked for that role. It’s difficult to see that as anything other than a sign that he thinks Endo isnt that guy, and if that’s the case, its difficult to see him as a player the manager would be comfortable giving even squad role minutes to.

He’s done well and he’s incredibly likeable, but signs point to it being best to find an exit for him and let some of the younger players pick up the squad role minutes

Wouldn’t give it that much credence, Ornstein had put that out a day back so you could make an educated guess as he was among the 6 names on here mentioned.

I thought the clock was his signings going up :joy:

So we are still interested in someone I never knew we were interested in and have never heard of.

Liverpool are still interested in Germany and Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier, but the 21-year-old wants to join Borussia Dortmund and is in talks with the Bundesliga club. (Sky Germany)

I’m putting this here because of the part that talks about possible departures:

As ever, trimming the present squad will be key and selling Tyler Morton, who has had loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, could bring in funds. He is valued at £20million and is wanted by RB Leipzig among others.

Leicester City and Southampton are also keen on signing FĆ”bio Carvalho. The Portuguese attacking midfielder, who spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig and Hull, having not featured much under Klopp, has impressed Slot on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the US.

If it’s more of a 2-1 pivot as Zubi suggests, opposed to a 1-2, doesn’t that create more of a space for Carvalho? I hope we don’t sell him. I really like watching him, and there’s football in that boy.

Hasn’t Slot said he seems him more as a wide forward than a midfielder? But Carvalho sees himself as more of a 10.

I just can’t see him getting enough game time to warrant keeping him or him being happy to stay. He’s like the new version of Harry Wilson. Good but not good enough to make a place his own and needs to play more for his own development.

If we got a good offer for him, say Ā£20-25m range with some clauses, I’d be comfortable selling and looking to reinvest that in someone who could play off the right instead.

We might end up regretting it but he could just as easily go the way of a lot of promising young players we’ve let move on, like Harry Wilson.

Can’t quite put my finger on that. If I had to choose one kid I’d love to become an established first teamer this summer, I’d choose Van Den Berg because it’s the position we’re lacking in at the moment, in my opinion. On the other hand, we have quite a few players who are comfortable in left wing position.

Carvalho’s situation is a bit perplexing for me - I feel he’s talented enough but that he doesn’t quite have the mental strength to become a world class player, at least not at this moment.

I’m not sure why that would be. Aside from some weird smear campaigns from spoilt, bratty Portuguese coaches who refuse to accept that they can’t get everything they want as and when they want it, Fabio himself seems quite serious about his career.

I think I’ve been influenced by his failed loan spell at Leipzig. Maybe I would have been singing a different tune had he ended up on loan at a weaker club, where he’d have lit up the league. I accept that not every player can make it at Liverpool, although I’m a bit sad every time a young player doesn’t make it here.

I guess it all comes down to what Slot thinks of him. There’s a part of me that would like to see Carvalho as Gakpo’s understudy, with Diaz getting sold and Jota playing as centre forward.
