Of course interviews like that have happened, Jordan is a prime example. Called for more signings, then realised his own playing time was being reduced and so pushed to get the Saudi Arabia move. I think Virgil may have called for signings a few years ago too, so itās not his first time doing so. Perhaps next time he does so the journalist can ask which of the current squad should be moved on to make space for the incoming player(s) 
There are some coaching differences - but that isnāt a big issue in their cases other than perhaps for Mo who would be expected to play with the high intensity he has throughout his career. The key issue in Mo and VVDās circumstances is obviously their age. Mo has just turned 32 and Virgil 33. How many years do you think they still have in their tank?
The club will have monitored the players individual stats to measure any physical decline, and referenced Base Case comparisons of similar players longevity when reaching early thirties that will influence the level of contract they are willing to offer. The players will rightly want to get the best deal they can, and we can imagine they will be reluctant to become squad players rather than starters over the next two years.
And as @Limiescouse said - the players themselves will play a pivotal role in whether a new contract is offered & signed. A new change in coaching staff and the return of Edwards throws up questions for the players as to what to expect and what they want in order to remain at the club. They have little to lose in making the club wait on their signature.

Rumours of us having interest in him have been around for a year or two now as well I think, so itās not going to be a decision based on some last-minute super-agent video that Deadline Day Duo Sam and Harry used to specialise in.

Thatās an interesting one - He came to us from Charlton which isnāt that far from Palace.
Obviously begs the question, who do we have lined up to come in if Gomez leaves?
Not sure he is worth the Ā£70-80m Palace are looking to get from Newcastle.

Itās a potential example of what we were discussing the other day, about how the market isnt a series of isolated moves, but often a cascade of moves. Palace just lost Anderson to Fulham and so now are doubling down on not letting Guehi leave this summer as well.
Unless they can get Gomez. But now weāve sold Sepp weāre not going to let Gomez go.

Yep, Iād happily keep him. Problem for us is, Gomez might be looking to leave, in which case we need a CB. If he was happy and the club keen to keep him, id suspect there wouldnt be all the noise.
In Guehi, he seems a decent defender. I prefer Branthwaite if youre shopping for English defenders.
Italian player, Italian club, huge wages, done his ACL and very susceptible to injuries. Seemingly not enough long term planning from my beloved club, instead buying squad players at the very end of the transfer window. Again. Plus Iāve spent the afternoon cleaning the fridge. Damn right I am like that guy!

: Chiesa and his agent Fali Ramadani will wait another day to see if Barcelona will be able to sign the 1997-born player. If the Spanish club does not provide guarantees within 24 hours, Chiesa will start looking at other options, including #LFC

If we sell Gomez I do hope the rumours on the RBL guy or similar are on otherwise it would massively concern me.
Thatās not how you spell Church in Italian. Youād think heāda got that mich right if it was an exclusive
