Nat is being paid well - likely significantly more than he would earn at any of the clubs interested in him - which undoubtedly has turned away some potential suitors. He also has had plenty of opportunities to show his worth to other clubs over the years. That none have stepped up with a significant bid to buy him says enough about their assessment of his value or their willingness to offer him a comparable contract.
Bit concerned we have left ourselves thin at CB.Nat needed to go for regular football, but he did, when called upon, give 100%,and sending out several kids on loan, some of whom were defenders, has contributed to that problem.
Hopefully we donât get hit with injuries as we do, from time to time.
As you said, from time to time. You expect injuries here and there and it will be manageable if the injuries donât happen to a single position to all the players at once and if that happens, you simply cannot plan for that. 4 very good CB options we do have, of course some might debate on the quality of the options but that is another different argument. Our supposed 4th choice Gomez has performed admirably especially last season when called upon but that was not in CB of course. But numbers wise, we are definitely not short and again while itâs a reality that injuries might happen, itâs not the best reason to stack numbers.
We went in with 4 defenders at 20/21 , ended up playing with Rhys and Phillips at the end of the season. Why attempt to do the same thing again and expect anything different.
Not sure how many clubs can lose 6 centre-backs to injury for most of the season, including the one that they brought in on emergency loan to try to stem the bleeding, and still qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season?
How many centre-backs will you have us stockpile, 10? Just to be on the safe side?
I think Slot needs to gain his own experience first, Klopp also preferred a lean squad at the beginning and had to learn the hard way.
Now we just have to wait and see whether the changed style of play might even have a positive effect and whether the new fitness and performance team can handle it better.
I genuinely donât see how an injury to the best defender at any club doesnât hurt their season. Look at all the claims that losing Stones destroyed Cityâs 2019-20. Weâre not going to get another couple more Virgil van Dijks in to sit on the bench. It just doesnât work that way.
How many times have that happened again after that season? If so, then why just stop at buying one more? Just buy 4 more CB in case this happens again?
Well, at least Tsimikas is a player with a very similar profile to RobboâŠ
If Ryan Gravenburch is injured, who can really ably take over his role 100%? If Macca and Domâs position are nearly guaranteed, itâs a toss up on Endo and JonesâŠ
